Ella's kitchen - Worried!

Hi everyone.

Just looking for your opinions on Ella's kitchen puréed pouches?

I opened a pear one tonight and looked like black on the inside tube bit. Not sure if it was mould or just how it's meant to be?

First baby and just started weaning so any advice much appreciated!

Prob how it’s meant to be.
They’re full of sugar though so not a great weaning food (even the savoury ones have fruit in to make them taste sweet) as ideally you want to start with savoury tastes (vegetables rather than fruit)

Sometimes if the pouch has been stood up for a bit there’s a bit of a dry blob at the top, could it have been that? DS loves them, he won’t eat anything else and has refused things he likes because he saw it came out of a jar or the freezer Blush don’t do that to yourself OP get some carrots mashed up instead!

Thanks for your replies. Yes I will do it myself also. She's been eating other things like potato and peas and carrots.

Any advice on how to manage this doing it all myself? I ideally don't want to be cooking twice a day until she goes to nursery. We've tried lumps but she's not keen on anything lumpy just yet.

My favourite way to start, unless full baby-lead, is to batch cook and freeze in icecube tray. A pot of cooked carrots, one of potato, brocoli, cauli, etc etc, mashed to however fine/lumpy you need at that age, each one frozen in icecube tray and popped into a labelled bag. Each meal grab say one cube of sweet potato, one of carrot, one cauli etc and warm through. Then every meal can be changed up and maybe added to stuff like chicken and easier cooked veg like peas.

You don't need to cook anything separately for the baby, just adapt what you are cooking/preparing for yourself.
I'm looking after a six month old baby at the moment - over the last few days she's had, Mon - toast fingers with cream cheese for lunch, cod, sweet potato and broccoli for tea, tues - mashed up avocado and pitta bread fingers for lunch, plain chicken breast, carrots, green beans for tea, today, scrambled egg for lunch, mashed potato, pork loin, carrots, broccoli.
I don't really puree up much of her food, I spoon feed things like the potato, avocado and egg and the other food I cut into easy to handle chunks and let her get on with it.

Buy a baby food freezer tray and freeze in bulk. Then you can mix and match different things. Plus baby can eat what you have (my ds has dairy allergy so we also freeze portions of stew/spag bol/etc so when we have something he can’t eat I have other easy options)

If you don’t want to be cooking separate meals, have you tried her with a sandwich or some steamed brocolli?

This cookbook has some great recipes that are suitable for all the family so you won’t feel like your specially preparing food for just one tiny person Smile

Sweet potatopureeand carrot freeze well. As do pear and apple, which are easy to mix into porridge for breakfast.

I used to make a big batch of mixed veg (zucchini, sweet potato, carrot, cauliflower - whatever was left over) and a pinch of curry powder, then blend it smooth and freeze in small containers. Even though the kids liked finger foods, they also liked a bit of mush with their dinner. Grin

I would normally mash up some part of what we were having for dinner at the and mix in a bit of natural yoghurt if I thought there was too much salt or spice. If we were going out for any length of time I'd take a banana, an avocado, a fork and a bowl.
