How do I stop dd losing things... its so bad I wonder if she's being bullied

She's 12 and just gone into year 7. She's always lost things and I honestly don't know what to do any more.

So far since September - hockey boots, PE t shirt, swimming costume, swimming hat, duffle coat, blazer (though that did get found eventually) 2 jumpers, rain coat and full pencil case.

I've refused to replace hockey boots as so expensive and told her to use normal trainers. She has to have a coat and jumpers and pencil case and swimming costume but I'm sick of it... absolutely sick of it.

Last night she came home and announced she'd lost her shoes... how on earth did she lose her shoes?

Actuallly starting to get really worried for her now

:( :(

my DD was like this - part and parcel of beig dyselxic for her.

All we can do is work out strategies for keeping track of things - ie getting changed and putting stuff straight in her bag.

Reducing amount of stationery in pencil case - often 3 things in her blazer pocket.

Having reminders about what to bring home - I use to text her at home time with a list of what to bring home

Is she going to list property to look for the list items?

Seeline · 17/01/2018 12:54

Is everything clearly named?
What is the lost property system like and does she use it?
Does she have a PE locker and/or book locker or does everything just get dumped in a corner?
Are coats actually lost or are they 'lost' (many secondary school kids don't think it's cool to wear a coat and conveniently 'lose' said items)?
Are things lost at school or on the bus home etc?

I think Y7 is always a bit chaotic - managing all the kit/equipment is another thing that they probably haven't had to deal with before. I've always encouraged DC to have a good look round themselves before leaving each classroom/changing area etc, just to make sure they have picked up everything, but things do go astray. Some kids scoop up everything around them - including other peoples PE kit etc if just lying about.

Thank you for the thoughts.

Shes not dyslexic so its not that.

They do have lockers but I am not sure how good she actually is at using it. I will try talking to her about using systems but its so hard as if I even try to talk about it, she gets very defensive and even angry.

She's bright and thoughtful, kind and friendly - she just keeps losing things.
