I've ordered some Ella's House (nervously) are they any good?

I've used BMio for for my first two kids and still have the prefolds but the wraps are shot. I needed new wraps but got seduced by the shaped nappies and the hemps and then the bumhugger

I need to know if they're an ok nappy?
I ordered the Totsbots red wrap for them as well, again, seduced!! Will this be alright?
Can I reuse those old prefolds for anything or should I convert to shaped and forget them? I really want the best eco nappies going, kindest to baby etc, not bothered on colours, heavy wetter-day/night) fat baby, used to velcro but would try poppers.
Any suggestions?
Where to buy too?

You can use the prefolds as boosters.

Bamboo is the most absorbant thing so great for heavy wetters - I prefer bambineos because they have a bigger weight range... you can get them in velcro or poppers (or nippa).

I have only tried one bumhugger and hate it with a passion (but lots love em so don't take that as read iyswim!).

Tots red wrap - not the best fleece out there, but the best tots fleece.. slim fitting and fairly reliable.

If you look in small business ads there are a couple of us on there now... I'm bumfluff.

Ooh flame your deluxe thingy looks lovely, velour I mean. What do you recommend then? I'd rather have natural stuff next to bub's skin, would quite like hemp. The only problem I have with the prefolds is they're very bulky and stay very wet after the first wee, so I'm washing tons of 'em and he can't wear them at night because he wee's soooo much!
Any thoughts on what to buy? Will buy from you natch!
Poo containment is also an issue atm

How are you drying them? I know hemp goes very hard in whatever water is round here (I'm in Bournemouth if that helps ).

I swear by the bambineos, preferably nippa version as you can yank it up tight between legs to stop poo leaks! Those with a motherease wrap are pretty much bomb proof.

If you want to go completely natural then a wool wrap over the top is perfect.

The velour ones are goooooooooooorgeous

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 16:47

Line dry or tumble if desperate, soft water area here. Ooh is the wool wrap hard to care for? Never tried a nippa are they easy enough for Mr Sorky to manage?

X post.
Will I need anything else with velour? More inserts or a wrap etc?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 26/04/2007 17:11

The velour needs a wrap.

Nippas - my DH can work em fine, some people hate them, I love them... I can get a more adjustable fit.

Wool - wash every week or so (when they smell). Soak in lanolin every month or so (they need about 3 soaks to get a decent usability).

You air them when not in use and its somethign to do with the wee and the lanolin mixing and it sort of self cleanses somehow (don't ask me how!!!)

I machine wash mine on a wool cycle (I use woollywraps). The only other time they need washing is if poo leaks on them (which is rare here...).

You do need to make sure that the nappy doesn't get too sodden or the clothes too tight or the moisture can wick through.

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 17:19

what wrap to use then, I'm in lurrrve with the velour organic swaddlebee's? Do they come in gorgeous colours too?
Is there an eco wrap that doesn't involve looking after as much as wool or is that too much to hope for? I will use wool if that hits the lentil-weaver button! LOL

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 26/04/2007 17:23

Wool is deinftely the most lentil weavery - once you're up and running with it then it is actually easier than other wraps!!

If not, go for motherease airflow - not eco but reliable.

The velour come in a few different pastelly colours.

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 17:27

How many do I buy?
So far I've got sage, butter, periwinkle and natural in my basket! The wool wraps are beautiful, how many will I need?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 26/04/2007 17:29

Do you want the velour full time or interspersed with another shaped nappy (it depends on your budget )

I'm crap at remember people's details... how old is your baby?

I tend to change every 4 hours during the day and have one night nappy with boosters... so if you decide if you want to wash every 2 days or 3, and add up like that you can normally work out how many you need. Normally about 15-16 is plenty.

Wraps - I tend to say about 4-5...

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 17:36

He's 11weeks but a rather chunky 14lb or so. I want them full-time , I'm not telling Dh, I think that's for the best! He'll divorce me if he finds out how much I'll have spent. But at least my baby will have a lovely bum!
Incidentally I have an unhealthy obsession with slings as well!!
The woollypants are for me! Will I buy the wraps or pull on's tho? How many of the pyjama ones will I need for nighttime, or will I need a different nappy altogether for night use? He pittles like a gud 'un

there is this style too

I've not listed it yet but if you would prefer those (at those prices!) then say.

Actually... will do a speedy listing now, and you just have to put colours, size etc in the comments box

Bedtime - I say go with bambineos for bedtime rather than the swaddlebees. Those with 2 extra bamboo boosters should do the heaviest of wetters (1 would probably do). 4 bedtime nappies (to allow for poo/drying time etc), 8 extra bamboo boosters - could do less as the boosters dry much faster...

That's assuming you don't normally change at night...

Flamesparrow · 26/04/2007 17:43

Oh with the "wraps or pull ons"... I got my first wrap one today and it is lovely.

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 17:44

Is there a mumsnet discount?
I'm buying 3 each in the colours below, so that's 12. I wash everyday with 3 kids. The pants are more tricky because I'm stuck as to what size to order for him. I don't want him to outgrow the 'small' straightaway, what do you think?

Added em.

If you email bumfluffnappies @ gmail dot com I can sort something out

If he is chunky then I would say go for the medium - as long as you don't choose the old style pull ons then they should be fine (or you could pin him down and measure him for the rise etc)

sorkycake · 26/04/2007 17:52

Sorry, don't know what's wrong with my pooter today!
Have the bambineo's in my basket (4) with 8 boosters. Will the woolly pyjama pants work over the top?
What size wraps for day use with the swaddlebees then? so I get most use out of them

Yup, the woolly pants will work fine - the old style (with v shaped leg holes) can gape a bit so better off with the new style ones (roll legs).

I think if you go with the mediums - they will be a bit roomy to start with but that won't affect how well they work (the good thing about wool!), there will just be a bit more fabric to fold into jeans etc. If you get the drawstring waist it might do the smaller sizes easier (or measure his waist and see how far off he is the medium size to be sure)

Gotta go out for a bit... will be back later!
