I am feeling very unconfident about returning to work after mat leave and would love to hear some other people's experiences. Since I left last summer, the company I work for has undergone a major restructure. The two people I worked most closely with have both left, my department has been merged with another and I will also be having one of two new line managers, both of whom are new and I don't know. It's also unclear if the contract with the main client I work for is getting renewed. I've got dates for KIT days organised but I've no idea what I'll be doing on them!! I'd like to ask for flexible working (going part time and possibly doing a day from home) but have no idea how to go about discussing this with the two line managers. HR have said it's all at the line managers' discretion. The uncertainty of what I'll be doing and who I'll be working with is making me feel very insecure about my career prospects. I'm wondering if I should just leave and look for something else but would that make going back to work even harder?
How did you go about asking for flexible working? Did you get it? Any advice on how to approach this before I go in for a meeting and KIT day next week? TIA x

Personally, I wouldn’t leave, you may have to pay back some of your Maternity pay. Do you know someone who does a similar role who has been successful in going part time? I used one of my colleagues as an example of how it works. HR should also have a set form for you to fill in and submit to your new Manager.
