First shoes

When did everyone take their DCs to get their feet measured for their first shoes?

Did you wait til they were actually walking or when they start showing signs?

I waiting until DD had been walking for around 4 weeks when I took her for measuring

Bare feet are the best feet imo!
My dc were walking about 6 weeks before took them to Clarks.

LovingLola · 09/01/2018 13:36

You need to wait till they are confident walkers - so about 4 to 6 weeks. My ds was a late walker at 16 months and I left him bare foot walking for as long as it took for him to be confident on his feet.

I think most people now take them when they start cruising the furniture! Clarks has a huge collection of cruisers which are great for when they're just finding their feet

alotalotalot · 09/01/2018 13:43

Cruisers are Clarks pre walkers that have a very flexible sole for when they need shoes outside but aren't walking properly. These are recommended until they have been walking "confidently" for 6 weeks. Obviously bare feet are best but they can't really do that outside in winter.

Clarks cruisers here too, which seem sturdy enough for outside but flexible enough for crawling as well. We've got them as DS has started walking a bit while holding our hands, though it was more for him to wear outdoors.

pastabest · 09/01/2018 13:52

They should be barefoot as much as possible even after they are walking confidently.

We got DDs first shoes fitted when she was confident and stable enough for us to let her walk around outside (around 10 months, she started walking at 8.5 months after cruising from 7 months)

She still only wears her shoes when we are going outside at 11 months.

The shoe fitter (a local independent) also advised us that it was best to get them fitted just after a growth spurt. They can tell if they have just had a growth spurt or not as if they are due one their feet will be the same size, if they have just had one then one foot will often be half a size bigger than the other.

I thought it was when they were walking but i know someone whose dc has only just started cruising and they have got them fitted for proper hard soled shoes.

I'm pretty sure DD will be taking at anytime. I'm convinced the only reason shes not is shes so fast at crawling!

I have a pair of the flexible sole ones but she spends most of her time in socks.

I didn't buy any until ds was wanting to walk outside, so around 11 months ish. He was cruising around furniture a bit before that.

alotalotalot · 09/01/2018 14:16

They need the barefoot or the flexibility of soft soled shoes when absolutely necessary, because their bones haven't formed and fused properly until their posture and weight is distributed properly as a result of walking confidently for at least 6 weeks.

I'm not sure of the truth of the difference in size of foot/growth spurt theory Hmm Most people have a slight difference in their feet size just like women have slightly different boob sizes.

alotalotalot · 09/01/2018 14:17

Proper hard soled shoes are a definite no no.

Somethingveryrandom · 09/01/2018 14:21

Thanks everyone for confirming what i thought.
