I'm planning on taking my 14 week old DS swimming for the first time this week, what did your babies wear?

Was thinking a swim nappy, and an all in one swimsuit. Does he need some kind of float vest or will he be okay with me holding him?

We went yesterday for the first time (16 weeks) she wore a swim nappy, a swimming costume, and we borrowed a yellow float from the pool - she absolutely loved it!!! The float came in handy as although we floated her around in our arms, it was nice to put her in there and push her around and give arms a rest!

When we took DD as a little baby (12 weeks) she just had a swim nappy on then when she got to about 4 months plus we used a float ring too. Make sure you take a towel poolside for baby so you can bundle them up as soon as you get out.
I found that although swimsuits are cute it's just another layer to strip off a cold, wet and usually very hungry baby when you get out. Far easier to wrap them up then whip the nappy off.

^the pool we went to was really warm and baby friendly - even in changing rooms, we whipped the costume off in the pool at the end as it’s easier inside water. (left the nappy on lol)

With a little swimmers nappy underneath.
As it’s Velcro much less hassle when changing her in and out of it than a swimsuit.

Holding is fine- my DD is 23 wks and I prefer to hold her than putting her in the baby float I bought (have to hold her in that anyway)

A lot of the swimming pools round here require babies to wear the happy nappy type things over their swim nappies as an extra layer of protection against accidents so might be worth checking what the rules are at your pool before going.

Mine wore a swim nappy and a happy nappy over it.

I like the jojomaman swim nappies for my DS, pools should also sell the disposable ones if you prefer. I also use a splashabout Baby wrap which keeps him cosy and makes him easier to hold onto!

If you're planning to go swimming often you can get reusable cloth swim nappies which can be worn under a happy nappy and then washed with the other swimwear afterwards. I think I spent a total of £10 (2 sizes at about £5 each) which did for three years worth of weekly swimming lessons - dread to think how much we'd have spent on disposable swim nappies in that time!

I've got some huggies disposable swim nappies, and this. I also bought him a little swimsuit.
