Has anyone done Solihull?

Has anyone done the Solihull parenting course offered through Children's centres? Did you find it useful?
Considering signing up but it's a 10 session x 2 hour commitment along with an hour long round trip each time so would like to get some feedback first.
I have DCs aged 3 to 12, 2 of whom have ASD, so any behaviour management course would be useful although I'm not sure how appropriate it will be for ASD.

I run them 😊

It's really worthwhile imo. It is useful, informative and the peer to peer support is very helpful. It's about building your relationship with your child and based on the premise that you know your child best so ASD is not a barrier to accessing the course. We're not a children's centre so can't swear to it for your provider, but we provide biscuits and cake too!

I've heard very good things about it

Thank you, both. Smile I think I'll give it a go. Had my name down to do it a year ago but there was no crèche available so I've been waiting until my youngest was at nursery. That's really useful to know about the peer to peer support as one of the options I was considering was whether to do it online in my own time, but then I'd miss out on all that.

It’s not specifically a behaviour management course or tailored for ASD so if you are looking for specific strategies you’ll need to try something else eg triple p, incredible years etc. Useful in general though for building relationships.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 05/01/2018 16:09

I've not heard of triple p or incredible years where we are. I've done the Cygnet course for parents of children with ASD, and a one day course in sensory processing from a private practitioner so I've done a bit about understanding ASD already. It's all useful anyway. I booked myself on the Solihull course today.Smile thank you for your input.
