Dummies and feeds

Im a 1st time mum. I have a 5 wk old baby girl. I used a dummy for the 1st time last night, as she was unsettled usual cuddles wernt working, she was fed and overtired. I express and use formula as struggle to pump enough and bf didnt work for us despite lots of support. Anyway, since gaving dummy baby is not feeding as much, still adequate i think, about 4oz every 4_5 hrs. She even went 6+ last night which terrified me when we woke up! I want to ask if anyone has found dummies to suppress hunger. Also safer sleeping guidelines say give dummy for every sleep but sometimes she asleep straight after bottle and settled so seems a shame to give. She also has refused to take. Any advice welcome. X

If your LO goes to sleep without, don’t put it in- same if she’s crying loads and spitting it out/keeps spitting it out in general - literally just use for naps when needed.

As for suppressing hunger- I’m not sure, the odd time when I’m absolutely knackered and she cries at night, I’ll put the dummy in and if she keeps waking then I know it’s hunger - generally mine won’t be fooled with the dummy - that’s my experience.

Thanks. She has been so much calmer since! Her feeding has calmed down over the last few days..think she might have had a growth spurt!

They are brilliant things (even though I said I’d never use one) babies love to suck things. It’s annoying when they wake for it as they get a bit bigger.. but glad for you it has calmed her down. :)

Sounds like a win to me! She'll cry and be miserable if hungry, dummy or not.

I said the same, but have had a change of heart!
