Possible teething at 8weeks old

I've been able to see the whites of most of DDs back teeth since she was 3 or 4 weeks old. The last few days she's been really sleepy she today she's off her milk a little (keeps biting the teat and getting upset) and very drooly. I checked and can feel one of the teeth, the gum around it looks a little pink but nothing major. She's recently started really chewing her hands, but hasn't mastered a teething toy. She'll also bite and suck on any finger, face, arm etc that comes in reach.

Could she be teething this young?
What's best to settle her / encourage the use of the teething toys?

Babies do chew on everything as a way of exploring

UnitedKungdom · 04/01/2018 07:25

It's possible. Some babies are born with teeth.

Definitely possible (though it's normally the front teeth first). My DS got his first two teeth at 14 weeks and as pp says, some babies arrive with teeth!

Try refrigerating a damp (clean!) face flannel for baby to chew.

Thanks all.

She's just too young to understand the concept of chewing for comfort, poor soul.

I'm wondering if it's maybe just her teeth starting to come down but not yet push through?

Teeth can move around a lot. I know my wisdom teeth certainly come and go on a regular basis. It must be similar for babies. They don’t necessarily need to ‘understand’ to chew on something for comfort. It will be more of an instinct. Lots of babies have movement of teeth and discomfort in their gums really early on, even if the teeth don’t actually appear

I wouldn't focus on it too much. If she seems miserable try a dose of calpol. If she's happy enough, then it really doesn't matter whether she's teething or not. You will have a million people say she's teething over the next 2 years.

Both mine had bottom front teeth at 12 weeks. The back ones were later and definitely came and went. One day you could see the little white points right through the gum and the next day they were completely gone and the whole thing started all over again.

I mean she can't work out putting things in her mouth on purpose, shell just take whats close. Chewing seems to comfort her however.

She's a little uncomfortable, and refusing some bottles
