Solution to sleeping on the floor in DS room

Hi all,

I'm sure lots of mums/dads must do this so let me hear what works for you! I've ended up sleeping on the floor in DS's room (14 months) a few nights in the last month due to illness. I've been using a stack of pillows laid out to sleep on but it's really not comfortable and I've woken with a strained neck this morning.

I want a mattress/fold up something that I can store under his cot and easily whip out for me to lay on when I end up sleeping in there, but that also won't be an eyesore/ take up lots of room. There are so many types of fold out/self inflating air mattress...what do you use?? What about a second cotbed mattress, this would fit nicely under the cot (it wouldn't bother me that it would be a bit too short).

Please no comments to just put him in bed with me, this doesn't work for our family.

TIA

A futon mattress is your best bet.

But my alarm bell always go off a bit when someone says “it doesn’t: work for our family” when what that family is doing is making the woman sleep on the floor......

We have a fold out z bed mattress, bought on eBay for about £30. I can't make the link work but if you search for "z bed Gilda" you'll find it. I would want to do too many nights on it but its surprisingly comfortable

We have a futon mattress we keep made up as a bed. It's fine for the occasional night. DD currently in our bedConfused

We do the reverse and keep a cot mattress under our bed and bring the child into our room on the floor next to us, I have 4primary aged dc, so nightmares are also common (2 have ASD and lots of bad thoughts/nightmares), so we use the mattress then also.

After 4dc and sleeping on countless floors and co-sleeping, this has been our best bet yet!

Wow speedy responses!! Thanks so much. The Z beds is what I'd been looking but was unsure if they'd actually be any better than the pillows so good to hear they are fine for the occasional night.

Bert it's not just me who ends up on the floor don't worry! Just happened to write 'I' instead of 'we'.

We use a spare cot mattress under the bed which is very easy to get out but you are right that it is a bit short!

We got a folding bed chair thing made of memory foam.

this which lasted a few years.

Then ds moved to a low single bed at 18 months so we could share with him.

Get a single bed and crash in with DC. Get Ikea duvet and cover as slightly larger so good coverage for both of you. Foam wedge to stop DC rolling out.

Changed my life.

OK I get DH to pop DD in bed with me and he sleeps in the single bed
