Baby retching

I just wondered if anyone could help 😩!! My new born is 12 days old, and is a really windy baby, but recently he keeps retching? Nothing comes up but it just looks so uncomftable and it's worrying me. Any body know what it could be?

Both of mine did this when very young. At this age they have a very sensitive gag reflex - it's triggered really far forward in the throat and moves back as they get older.

This is an in-built baby safety measure! if this is your first, when you come to weaning you'll find it's still really easily triggered to protect them from choking. They'll gag waaay more than any adult, and you'll undoubtedly confuse it with choking and panic the first few times - like every other first time parent Grin

At this point it's pronghorn being triggered by saliva or mucous, but of course if you're worried check with your health visitor or your gp at your six week check. It should have calmed down by then anyway.

Pronghorn?? Obviously that should say "probably".

I imagine reflux could trigger it too! From what I understand there would be screaming/crying with reflux too though as stomach acid is quite burny. If it's just gagging I reckon mucous Smile

Congrats on your newborn!
