My 4 week old’s nappy keeps leaking wee!?!

Help! My 4 week old keeps leaking wee out the top of his nappy mainly from the front. I do all the things like pointing his willy down, making sure the frilly leg cuffs are out, tightly strapped at the waist. So I’m so confused as to why it keeps happening! I’m having to change his outfit 3 times a day :( I have been carefully opened his nappy just to see if his willy had moved around/ended up pointing upwards BUT it’s always pointing down?! Sometimes his nappy totally dry and he’s managed to soak his belly and clothes. We are using mamia newborn 1 nappies. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated xxx

You need to try a few to see what fits your baby best. It could be too big on his legs?

QuestionableMouse · 31/12/2017 18:34

Try a different brand of nappy? Maybe the one you're using isn't the best fit?

Try pampers premium protection. They don't leak IME. Make sure you're using the right size for your baby's weight too.

Watto1 · 31/12/2017 18:35

Try going up a size or try a different brand. Dd leaked like mad in Pampers but was fine in Sainsbury's own!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/12/2017 18:36

I second trying different brands - I found some were fine on my dses, but others were awful.

CremeFresh · 31/12/2017 18:36

Gaffer tape Grin

JuniUmiZoomi · 31/12/2017 18:36

Size 2 you'll be fine. The weights on them are so confusing.
That being said, my nephew had an issue with leaky wee and then they realised his belly button was sore and it was discovered his umblicial cord hadn't healed over fully so worth a quick check it's all ok there

Are his vests too tight?? If not, try other brands/sizes. Mamia suit ds1 but not ds2. Pampers leaked on ds1 but work for ds2

LRL2017 · 31/12/2017 18:40

Agree try a different brand. We had loads of leaks with pampers but absolutely fine with the Aldi ones.

RatOnnaStick · 31/12/2017 18:40

Generally when a nappy starts to leak consistently its time to move up a size but you're saying its dry inside? I suggest that brand is a poor fit now and perhaps try some others. As your baby grows you might find you change brands more than once. Longer thinner babies do better with a narrower, higher-rise nappy and wider, lower rise ones are great for chunky bums and legs. Experiment a bit.

EivissaSenorita · 31/12/2017 18:41

Make sure his willie his pointing down!

Newtothismumthing1 · 31/12/2017 20:34

My DD wet out her nappy constantly in the early. I think it’s just that we handle them so much as the beginning (tipping to the side for feeding etc) that inevitably it happens more often. Barely happens now.

RatRolyPoly · 31/12/2017 20:36

Size 2!

mindutopia · 01/01/2018 16:16

Definitely try different brands and go a size up if that doesn't work. Also, seems obvious but how frequently are you changing him? We changed our dd at every feed, so every 2-3 hours around the clock and that seemed to keep on top of it and prevent most leaking.

bumblingabout · 02/01/2018 00:07

Ah thanks so much for all the advice! Seems unanimous that I should try different brands and I size up! It just didn’t occur to me he would grow out of his nappies so quickly and I’ve got a stockpile of them Confused will donate to my other mums to be! Smile will report back on how I get on in size 2’s! Xxx

Our eldest leaked constantly as a newborn, i would have to change his outfit and bedding 3 times a night! I found pampers were rubbish! Little angels from Asda were good as a newborn and then he went into Tesco about 4 months old and rarely have a problem now. I think he does just wee a lot, even now at 3 I have to change his nappy while he's asleep at 10pm otherwise he will wet through. Also pay no attention to the weights on the nappy's. My boys have always been ahead, they were both in 5+ & 6+ by 12 months old! Try the + ones too as they really make a difference in my opinion
