I suspect you are about to be flamed

Lj8893 · 29/12/2017 11:49

I'm not sure why that's mad? I'd be uncomfortable in pants with bows and frills on so would expect a 2.5yr old to be too!

jelliebelly · 29/12/2017 11:57

What’s mad about that? I have a pink frills and bows hating dd and I’ve really struggled to find comfy pants for her - she’s 8 now and it’s still hard!

It's not "gender neutral gone mad" It's hard trying to find comfortable pants for girls. Frilly pants irritate my DD. My DSSs don't have the same problem.

NeilPetark · 29/12/2017 13:05

What’s wrong with not wanting bows and frills all over girls clothes? Maybe not everyone wants a sea of pink.

A bit like how I wish boys clothes weren’t mostly dark blue and brown.

I was a bow and frill hating child.

Praisebe · 29/12/2017 13:10

Just shop in the boy section of H&M or go to frugi etc

moggle · 29/12/2017 13:15

I do agree that searching out such pants for a 2.5 year old purely so you can say they are gender neutral seems a bit much... why can’t they just buy some plain pants from the boys section? My DD gets “boys” vests as past age 2 I don’t think the girls strappy ones look warm enough. personally i sought out pants that weren’t frilly for DD because she got very irritated skin from frills or even just the elastic stitched to the legs. But the pants without bows on the front are really really annoying because she can’t work out which way is the right way to put them on!! I don’t know how little boys manage it. Plus if the bows annoy someone that much they can just snipthem off?

sunshine3003 · 29/12/2017 13:41

She can't make her own mind up yet she is only 2.5

What really pisses me off is that “gender neutral” always means “traditional boys”

sunshine3003 · 29/12/2017 13:46

I understand the practical side of underwear but I think the mother dislike bows, she is making a statement and putting her views of 'gender neutral' on her poor child.

I believe this is a first world problem

There are children over the world you don't ever have clothes

From two year's old my daughter refused to wear pink, sequins, frills, butterflies etc... adorned clothing. So they very much can know their own mind from an early age. We shop for boys stuff. Did get some lovely striped boystyle pants from John Lewis last year. Like these m.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-girls%27-days-of-the-week-briefs-pack-of-7-multi/p3302434?sku=236790124&s_kwcid=2dx92700028113813515&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIo72N_q2v2AIV4p3tCh34QwB1EAQYBCABEgKxq_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

NotEvenAMoose · 29/12/2017 13:49

I don’t get what’s gone mad at all?. Gender neutral views hardly make the child a ‘poor child’. It’s not forcing anything at all on them, the kid just isn’t wearing bows.

Ceebs85 · 29/12/2017 13:52

This is hardly gender neutral 'gone mad'

Get a grip!

ItsChristmoose · 29/12/2017 13:54

Sunshine, I hope you never have any sort of first world problem.

This drives me mad. If she's talking about girls underpants then I'm totally with her. I've scoured the shops and the internet for girls underpants that don't have that lace edging. Haven't found a single pair! Problem is the lace shrinks in the wash and cuts into my little girls thighs and hips. Meanwhile my DS has lovely cotton elasticated bands and leg holes on his underpants. I'd put my DD into his Spider-Man ones but she loves princesses and at 3 already has an aversion to 'boys things' despite my best efforts. 😤

Aragog · 29/12/2017 13:54

The person asking for advise just needs to head to most shops. There are plenty available - including in the girl's section, and even more in the boys section. I just don't think they've been out and looked tbh.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/12/2017 13:57

Right so wanting pants that actually cover what they are supposed to cover and not having irritating lacy and bow trims is gender neutral gone mad?

Both mine wear black shorts no frills no bows no Disney nothing.

What views am I inflicting Hmm

just5morepeas · 29/12/2017 13:58

I don't think there's wrong with wanting girls knickers that are more neutral and practical.

I've got one of each and the boys pants are always better quality than the girls.

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2017 13:59

“People will hate for my comments“

Why? Do you think of yourself as a persecuted minority?

Aragog · 29/12/2017 14:00

John Lewis - no frilled elastic or boy: here and here too

Next: more or again

Thats just two store and a quick search, so didn't look for specific makes and styles, etc. but non lacy elastic and non bow options are available even in the girls sections of stores.

moggle · 29/12/2017 14:15

ItsChristmoose I found some good ones in M&S in October, where the leg elastic was encased by the main fabric just like with boys pants, and the waist elastic was soft and not frilly. Small pics on the front and days of the week; Unfortunately I can’t see them on the website any more. My last option before I found those was going to be to buy some white boys pants and dye them a different colour in the machine!

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2017 14:49

you don’t appear to have scoured very hard......

ItsChristmoose · 29/12/2017 16:52

Bert and Aragog, thank you! Ordering now.

I did spend hours on a few occasions googling and couldn't find anything like those except for over 6 yr olds. My mum has been on the look out for about 6 months too. I guess JL and M&S hadn't optimised their search terms!

But I should have known to just ask mumsnet!
