Cot bumper pads

I know cot bumpers that tie are a big no no for safety reasons, but what about the type that Velcro around the bars like these in the link?

It says they’re breathable in the title but then nothing further in the description. Anyone know?

I would still have absolutely nothing in the cot other than what is in the recommended safe sleeping guidelines. I know too many people who have lost babies to SIDS yo contemplate any deviation from the guide. I realise I may be a bit over the top.

sthitch · 28/12/2017 23:02

Another vote for nothing - just stick to the guide as bumpers are not essential. Please don’t risk anything with your LO, it’s not worth it for a bumper.

I wish they would stop selling them.

Nothing in the cot at all.

What if the baby rolls onto the bumper during the night?

I wouldn't risk it.

Bellamuerte · 28/12/2017 23:05

I wouldn't take the risk, it isn't worth it. I also think that shops should be banned from selling cot bumpers as they are known to be dangerous!

BluePheasant · 28/12/2017 23:06

Nothing extra should be in the cot. They are just products that you don’t need and add unnecessary risk.

There was a discussion on Reddit the other day were a paediatrician came on and said that neither she or any of her colleagues had ever seen a broken arm or leg as a result of not having a bumper, but they had seen a number of infants die after suffocating on them. Anecdotal, but interesting point.

I'd rather take the (very small) risk of a broken bone over an increased SIDS risk. It baffles me why bumpers are still for sale in the UK/ EU, it's just madness.

Thankyou everyone. I’m going to give it a miss - definitely not worth the risk!
