this is baby number 4, i either have a very bad memory or i have never encountered a baby who just will not be put down at all before. he is either attached to me 24/7 or i have to listen to him screaming while i do stuff. he is starting to drive me round the twist. anyone else had one of these and got any tips? he is only 8 weeks old, i keep telling myself its not forever but dear god i need a rest!

Oh poor you GG my DS2 was a screamer. But he turned out to have an inguinal hernia that was repaired at 12 weeks old. Might be worth checking with HV or Dr. HTH x

get a sling?

CarGirl · 23/04/2007 22:52

Could it be acid reflux - by 3rd was like this and THEY kept telling me it was "a touch of colic" - THEY were wrong and it nearly sent me over the edge in the meantime!

oh bloody hell, didnt think it could be something like that! he is fine when he is held, were yours like that too?

i have a sling, sometimes its ok but i cant cook wearing it and it gets a bit uncomfortable after a while, he is a big lump of a baby!

My sympathy, ds was like that. I had no rest during the day unless he was on me and I remember having quick showers with him screaming in his cot. One ray of hope - it'll stop eventually! That's all the encouragement I can give. Ds went from being baby from hell to the best baby in the world at 12 weeks - even slept through so there is hope.

gigglinggoblin · 24/04/2007 10:05

will be very happy if he sleeps through at 12 weeks. i think i need to get a load of post it notes and stick them all over the house with 'its not forever' written on them

I would recommed a trip to a cranial osteopath - it can't hurt and it may turn him into angelic baby

Hi, my dd3 (7weeks old) is my 4th and she is becoming a nightmare to put down as well. for the first 3weeks she was really good, feed, change, put back down to sleep, but for the last 2 weeks, she hates laying down (not in pain just prefers to cuddle), will only sit in the bouncy chair for 10-15minutes at a time, but is really good in the night, goes straight to sleep after a feed, so i shouldnt really complain. twice last week i took ds1 to afternoon nursery and because she was sleeping i went for a really long walk just to have some quiet time. my ds1 was never like this although dd2 was a baby from hell from birth until she was about 5yrs old.

My son cried constantly if put down during the day until he was six weeks old. Then suddenly he was happy in a bouncy chair as long as he could see where i was and what I was doing - I still vividly remember the first time I went to the loo and he didn't scream! You've got my sympathy - I know what you're going through!

My baby is big too and I find the hugabub sling to be fab, so comfy and really easy to wear for a long time. Ds2 always falls asleep in his hehe. He's 15 weeks old and weighed 16lb 4 last week.

castlesintheair · 24/04/2007 14:08

DD1 was like this. I had to keep her in a sling during the day and hold her against my chest upright at night. We found out she had silent reflux and got her on meds straightaway. She changed almost instantly - would lie happily on the floor to play and slept brilliantly.

JodieG1 · 24/04/2007 14:40

Oh my ds2 has just been diagnosed with reflux yesterday and it's helped straight away.

snowwonder · 24/04/2007 14:44

have you tried the old tip of lying him on something you have been wearing, so he has your scent near him?

or the untuned radio on hear him, supposed to be a white noise which they like..

hope things improve soon, it must be very draining for you
