ok so we have this cupboard under the stairs and the doors were taken off it the other day to get a desk out.i had my dd 8m in her walker earlier,i turned my back for 2 secs to slice a bit of cheese for her and the next thing is a big crash and shes made it to the cupboard...only next to kitchen.shes grabbed the doors which were propped up and one fell on her head.god this sounds awful.i snatched her up and she was crying, shocked i think.she had a little red mark on her head.i have never felt so so bad.i totally forgot about the doors.im normally so careful! god i am going to beat myself up about this for ages.it couldve been alot worse i suppose...am i the only one who has made a mistake like this that couldve been so bad? or am i just a poo mum...

Not a poo mum at all. Accidents happen - the clue is in the name i bet you have moved the doors now anyway.

akaJamiesMum · 23/04/2007 17:41

My DS rolled off the sofa when he was 8 weeks. I had literally just turned my back to put the phone back on the hook. He was fine - if a little shocked (but then so was I). Felt a crap mother. I was a HV at that time too.

LIZS · 23/04/2007 17:42

Sorry but it 'll be the first of many. Have you got stairgates to secure an area for her to play in.

climbingwalls · 23/04/2007 17:42

Oh of course you're not a poo mum! If you were you wouldn't be so concerned! You obviously care, it is such a shock the first time they have a 'proper' accident, I think what you are feeling is quite normal! I remember the first time I did something like this, but it was even worse as I directly coused the pain, I was cutting his nail and accidentally snipped too low

I still feel really guilty and terrible if my DS hursts himself as a result of what I feel to be my negligence, but thankfully that doesn't happen often!

How is your dd's head now?

climbingwalls · 23/04/2007 17:43

Kids are more resilient then we think too! [happy]

climbingwalls · 23/04/2007 17:43

hmmm I meant

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/04/2007 17:45

I guess this is one of the reasons that that type of walker is considered dangerous!

We've all had some sort of accident with our children though, so it doesn't make you a poo mum.

madamez · 23/04/2007 17:45

CW I did that as well when DS was about 3 months old. Felt horrible about it for days (still feel a bit of a pang typing it). He's 2.6 now and has fallen, variously, off the bed, down the stairs, off the bottom of the slide and has a permantent patchwork of scrapes and bumps and bruises. And every one makes me wince, but that'\s just part of life.

babyonboard · 23/04/2007 17:48

Don't worry about it these things happen!
We had a picture on the wall that we were sure was out of DS's reach but he recently pulled it down. Thank god it wasn't a glass one.
And both DC's have rolled off the bed/takn falls onto our hardwood floors etc.

climbingwalls · 23/04/2007 17:53

madamez I know, I still feel awful thinking about it, especially as it is such a horrible pain!

Now my DS is 4 he has constant grazes on his knees and elbows!

Part of being a kid I suppose!

Twinmummyx2 · 23/04/2007 18:11

Many accidents happen....my dt (6) managed to knock a big picture off the wall on Friday with a soft ball, amazingly the glass didn't smash! Put it in the corner as i had to take them to school. Came home with Dts (2.5) after the school run and totally forgot about the pic, was tidying in kitchen when i heard a scream, DT had only got it from the corner and had jumped on it bear foot......he had a tiny nic on his ankle where a splinter bit of glass had popped up. Luckliy he hadn't tried to get off it so i managed to lift him right up and off...could have been a lot lot worse.Usually my house is safe, but i forgot the picture was down...so easily done when you are a busy mum.

Hope your little one is alright.xx

don't worry about it! Buy some arnica cream from Boots, any bumps and bruises just slap some on, seems to really take bruising away. Bumps will happen and they move so FAST!

suejonez · 25/04/2007 16:18

my DS has perpetual grazes (small ones) on his forehead now he is just walking - unavoidable and you do get used to the little bumps and grazes

BigGitDad · 25/04/2007 16:30

Hi Suejonez (Hijack thread; I won't bother going to cup final now Llanelli are not in, no fun when you do not play against the Welsh!)
I was at the London Marathon Sunday when my daughter fell down some steps and cut her knee and amid the blood there were tears and screams. However she now wears the scabs with pride as we tell her that she was so brave and such a big girl (she is nearly 4) when we were cleaning it up in the bath later that evening.
All part of the rich tapestry of life so do not feel bad.

suejonez · 25/04/2007 16:31

BGD (me neither - no fun going to the cup final if your team are not playing!)
