Hi, I was so excited to give my 10 month old Christmas dinner. He eats roast dinners and plenty every other day so I knew he'd like it. I gave him everything we have without salt. He was far too excited and couldn't eat it!! So disappointed... anybody else had this problem?

My 3 year old just found it overwhelming and just ate little sausages. And Christmas pudding.

Yeah he ate a couple spoons and then started spitting it out in excitement and kicking his legs. He got so excited at one point i though he was found to be sick He was happy as anything just wouldn't eat!! Not how I thought his first Xmas dinner would go at all!

My just turned 2 year old just had little sausages, wouldn’t eat anything else at lunch and struggled with tea also. Too much excitement and lack of routine for her, plus the fact that she hasn’t had a nap today either!!! 😩

MrsMotherHen · 25/12/2017 17:58

Yep two year old too overwhelmed and ate a sausage and a bite of trifle.

Yeah Christmas dinner is completely overwhelming for under 5s in my experience. I dish them up a few bits but actually I’m more lax at Christmas about joining in than I am on a normal lunch. My 2 year old pottered while we had a lovely meal, and my 5 year old only ate carrots. I’d lower your expectations for a bit! And they can have some salt at 10 months so I wouldn’t really stress about that too - stuffing was one of my baby’s faves!

That's exactly like ds, he's is a big fan of routine and the day threw him right off. He wouldn't take his second nap, I hate to put him in dark room with his dreamshow where he finally zonked with exhaustion I think!

I've just heard of babies polishing off their dinner and hadn't heard of them being too overwhelmed to eat them before! I wish I'd have known this could happen haha.

Yep, 14 month old dc decided that he was not going to eat anything on his plate and would only eat off of dh's plate. He ended up eating a shred of turkey and about 3 tablespoons of stuffing. I had a lovely restful lunch as I was ignored by both of them Grin

My two are both good eaters usually but didn't manage much today. Mostly pigs in blankets.

Good to hear ds wasn't the only overly excited little nipper! I think he'll sleep tonight hopefully and so will I!! Xmas Smile

My 9yo was too excited and had to be bribed to eat some carrots with an extra sausage Grin But he's not feeling well so we'll let him off.

Ds ate most of his Boxing Day dinner (basically the same as his Christmas one) no problem today and polished off big pot of Greek natural yoghurt & fruit after it. The festivities must have all just been too much for him yesterday!!
