Swaddle advice for 11 week old

Our 11 week old started cat napping around 8 weeks, often waking up at the 20-30 minute mark. Obviously he gets very overtired.

He's always been swaddled and currently has a Love to Dream arms up swaddle which he loves.

Today I sat next to him while he napped and when he started twitching, I put a firm hand on his chest and held his arms. He stayed asleep and ultimately had a 2.5hr nap! But he twitched for about 30 mins until he got into a deep sleep so obviously holding him through the startle isn't a long term solution.

Any advice on how to help him not be woken up by his startle? He seems to jerk his arms forward rather than out sideways, which I think might be why the arms up swaddle isn't quite doing the job. For this reason, I don't think a Sleepyhead will help either.

I'm loathed to change his swaddle as he has a great association with it, plus I imagine he'll only be swaddled for a few more weeks, but any ideas?

I swaddle DD (4months) because she jerks and flings her arms about in her sleep and wakes herself up!

You might not want to to change your current swaddling style/technique, but if you want to give it a go, take a blanket, fold one corner down, put LO in the middle with theirhead and neck over the folded corner and wrap one side under them, and then the other side (think like making a fajita!). I then do the same again with another blanket if it's cold.

I always keep the bottom of the blankets loose so she can move her legs/hips and stretch out. She's slept a lot better since we've done this as she can move but only a little, her arms dont flail about anymore and I would recommend it!

I got so caught up in all the MW and HVs telling me noooo, never swaddle/co-sleep/FF etc, but I've decided to ignore all their advice and just do what's right for me and my DD, and I think as parents you've got to trust your instincts! Hope you get some sleep soon! Xx
