ds has finally got his pants on,okay they are only the ones he chooses but hey..cant have it all!

he has taken to it well, few accidents but after 10 days is fully trusted to let us know when he needs etc..

at night the nappy has been dry a few times but main problem is he plays with his willie so much it ends up with it pointing up by morning all his bed damp in the morning..one morning he wanted nappy off to pee..

would you just dump nappies and do it?

No. It's far too soon. There is not a lot you can do about training them by night, you just have to let them develop to the point where they can do it. 10 days really isn't that long. See how that goes for a bit and take it from there.

I did this with my ds, but only cos we got stuck at our inlaws without a single nappy & after that he seemed happy enough not to wear them. He was 2.7 I think, it was about 3 weeks after day training was sorted. How old is your ds? Could you just put a vest on him to stop him getting to his willie so much?! It would seem easier than risking night training, I'd prefer a damp bed to a soaking wet one at 3am! Maybe wait until you get a few more weeks of dry nappies?

suzycreamcheese · 23/04/2007 22:03

thanks guys, just sort of thought it might be pushing it a bit as the day has gone so well
he's just 3
thanks for replies though how would a vest stop him getting to willy? nothing stops him getting there, just nothing! ...
...shall i just wait til nappies are dry for longer do you think...play it by ear a bit?

my dd has self trained overnight, she decided nappies are 'yucky' and wouldnt wear one, she now has knickers on at night too, she is fine overnight but some mornings we have accidents! she only trained during the day a few weeks ago so it can be done.

but that was her decision so i dont know wether forcing (not the right word but i cant htink of a better one) him to do it will work as well....if he's 3 maybe you could explain it to him and he'll understand? i still remind dd every night as i put her to bed that if she needs a wee wee she has to come and get me

stacey....this is interesting, thanks...and well done your dd! smart girl....

ds has not been making fuss but does pull to get nappy off some mornings to pee...so was not sure if confusing issue for him (call them night nappies now)...

i didnt want to push him as am so pleased at this, he would not even put on pants til a few weeks ago then got hang of it all quickkly..
should play it by ear i guess...
knowing me will forget and nappies run out...so great for them to be off the list!!

We used stuffable all-in-ones at night for DD so she could pull them up and down and call them 'big girl pants'. She would take them off and do a wee in the potty in the morning herself. It took me about 6m to notice they were always dry in the morning though.

SCC, we had this exact problem, DS1 was dry in the day, not dry at night, and playing with his willy. He would only pee at 5 or 6 in the morning, and he would wet the bed, and wake up, and it was horrid.

We resorted to lifting him when we went to bed. We would plop him on the pot, in his dark room, and whisper 'pss pss pss' until he peed, then put him back in bed. (We had him in pull ups, just to be safer.)

It was tiresome, but less annoying than being woken by a wet child at 5am.

It didn't slow down him becoming dry at night, I think we dropped nappies entirely by 4.

(DS2 is 2.5, not dry in the day, but dry at night. Kids are weird.)
