Noisy Baby!

Hi all

Our little one is 15 weeks old now and is the most noisy baby overnight. If we don’t constantly pacify him by rocking or giving him a dummy (I know, we are terrible parents for the dummy, right?Wink) then it just builds up to a full scale scream Shock This is our second child.

My husband and I have only just started taking him upstairs with us overnight - until this week we were doing “shifts” with him in his Moses basket and us on the couch because at least whoever was upstairs in bed could get a couple of hours uninterrupted sleep! It was bliss. But we knew we’d have to get him used to being upstairs so we’ve bitten bullet and taken him up two nights now.

They’ve been hell! We take turns at getting up so whoever isn’t up next is trying earplugs but they are useless as cans till heat everything. Which results in us both getting around two hours solid sleep at the beginning of the night (he sleeps sound from around 9-11pm) then honestly NONE after. Not a wink. Worse than the newborn days.

We are so tempted to go back to “shifts” on the couch as at least we were getting decent rest. 😩

Anyway I’m looking for advice! Has anyone else had a noisy baby? What helped? Can anyone recommend decent earplugs?

For info.

Was on ranitidine for acid reflux since 4 weeks old but actually improved a little when we stopped this last week.

Currently on Gaviscon.

Currently on colief which IS helping with wind.

Currently on Hipp Organic Hungry Baby milk. (This was on advice of HV but doesn’t seem to be making any difference, still seems a very Hungry Baby!)

Have been referred to paediatrics to see if they can suggest anything but we’ve been waiting almost 3wks already, I know it’s not urgent as he putting on weight and eating well so it won’t be a priority for them and I understand that.

Any advice please?! PLEASE! Sad

It’s unusual advice to suggest hungry baby milk. Was he drinking much more than the 2.5 floz of formula per pound in weight?

If he’s suffering with reflux have you propped up the top of his crib? Have you thought of trying a comfort milk too?

Have you tried anti reflux milk? It works better than the gaviscon for my ds

Dummies are actually recommended now as a protective factor for SIDS.

If a dummy works give him a dummy!!

Hi
Thanks for ro the replies! Yes he was wanting fed all the time but never finishing a bottle so HV suggested Hungry Baby. Not made one bit or difference. We tried reflux milk too but never helped (it was a Miracle cure for first son!). We have tried to prop up top of mattress and we did this for weeks but he started rumbling so much he worked his way to the bottom of the crib and wasn’t comfy! We feel like we have tried everything :( xxxx

I was wondering about the constant feeding because that and reflux are both symptoms of Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy. Have a read of this from Allergy UK and see what you think Xmas Smile

Thanks @EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic I was thinking that myself as think the lactose is harder for their wee digestive systems to break down with the hungry baby milk is that right? I’ll have a look. My HV hasn’t mentioned this but if no luck over Christmas I’ll get back in touch with her and see what she can recommend. Thank you.

It’s extremely unusual for babies to have lactose intolerance. CMPA is an allergy to the proteins in the milk rather than the sugar. Have a read of the article and if you think it may be CMPA I’d go straight to the GP and ask for a referral to a Paeditrician and a prescription for a dairy free milk.

Thank you so much @EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic will definitely have a look in to this as I don’t know much about it.
