End of Infants and into Juniors...

I posted on the other thread I started some 2 yrs ago about having just the 1 child and feeling sad as time passes (although also being happy that ds is growing up too - I don't want him to stay frozen in time !). The thing is that I do feel sad about the end of his time in Infants and the fact that he'll be a Junior in September - he loves school and is happy to move on (though he has said he'll miss the Infants playground etc).It must be a mum thing ! Year 6 kids look so huge and he is quite a small boy, though is very able to stand up for himself ! Would I feel differently if I had other children ?or do parents of several feel similarly ?

We have 3 little ones and our eldest is also a 'junior' next year and it does seem bitter-sweet as he will always be a 2.24 kg newborn in some part of my brain...
As parents, we are all lucky to be allowed to be part of their lives and to watch them grow into responsible, independent people but time does march on too quickly sometimes!

I'm sure that's a common thing johno - I'm feeling a bit sentimental right now as it's the end of term ! You have all those milestones to come - it's a funny mixture of joy and sadness being a parent (and worry...boy,do I worry !)

canadianmom - yes, agree with you - we are lucky to be part of their lives and so lucky that they do grow up, but it is a bitter sweet thing !

I got my ds's application to comp school last week. He's my youngest and it doesn't seem 2 mins. since he was stood at the door of Reception. As for his size, just wait until next year when you see the new set of Y3s coming in!

Binker,

My ds becomes a 'Junior' and dd1 will be year 6 in September, but I still feel the same as you do. They just seem to grow up instantly by moving from Infants to Juniors. DS didn't like going to the Infants school, but is looking forward to going to the Juniors because they have bigger and better play equipment.

Heaven knows how I'll feel when dd2 starts school as ds will be starting secondary school when she starts Infants, DD1 will be in year 10 by then!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!

ds1 moves up to juniors in September too. He's only really just recently come to terms with the concept of being at school all day, and not being completely shattered when he gets home.

Juniors seems to be more intense, and also slightly longer days, and much shorter breaks. In our school the juniors actually do 45 mins longer in the classroom, I think!

yes, no afternoon break - plus they aren't checked in and out by the teacher as they do in Infants.
