Regression of skills (15 months)

My twins are very different developmentally - one has always been faster with physical things while the other has been faster with cognitive things.

The latter seems very bright - he started copying me first (clapping etc), making consonant sounds, posting balls, stacking quite early. He's pulling up and cruising along the edges of things and is very stable, whereas his brother is trying to walk around and constantly falling down.

However, I've noticed recently that he's stopped doing things he used to do all the time. For example, he used to clap all the time - if I start singing "happy and you know it", he would start clapping after the first two words, and copying other things I did. He's stopped doing this completely.

Is this normal? Is it because he's focussed on learning to walk etc maybe? Just seems weird to learn things, do them all the time and then just stop!

So sorry to read this Tammy. This is not a popular suggestion but... did this regression happen shortly after their first year vaccines? There are quite a lot of parents who experience this happening in the following days/weeks after the shots. x

Thanks for your reply. No, they were 3 months ago, and I've only noticed this very recently (probably the last week or two). Didn't notice anything unusual after the vaccines at all.

It's not like he's regressing over all - he's learning new things and getting closer to walking, new sounds, and finding new things funny etc, it just seems odd that he was doing some things all the time and now doesn't seem to be doing the
at all.

Actual regression (loss in ability to do the skills) is a worry and worth talking to HV about

But, its worth considering if he has just become 'bored' with that thing and is progressing to something else. So clapping was super cool two weeks ago and he loved your reaction but he has now found a new thing that is more interesting?

I'm sure you're right and I'm probably worrying about nothing - he's had a tough start in life and I get really worried about him. Hopefully he's just focussing on something else for now!

Didn't want to read and run...
write everything down, and
speak to your health visitor.

Mine both did this but speak to your HV if worried.

Hi! I know this is an old post but just wondering how your LO is doing now? I’m having the same concerns about my little boy!
