Gravel in the garden

clarebka1 · 21/04/2007 11:38

Just tidying up the back of the garden and was going to create a gravelled terrace. A friend mentions was it wise to have gravel with small children as they could eat it / choke on it.

Anyone got a view on this / experience ?? Ta

gravel not wise with small children .. they could indeed eat it .. but also if they fall on it they are more likely to get hurt

we have a tiny bit of gravel and the worst that has happened is that they chuck it around or put it in the watering cans. how old are the children?

oh and small children collect stones too .. and they put them places you don't expect .. and they chuck it

a garden should be a place you can chuck the kids into whilst you have a coffee in peace IMHO

And neighbourhood cats poo in the small gravel

COrnish cobblestones are nice and big and more fun to collect

is it going to be the main playing area? as if yes then probably not a good idea but if not then no reason why not. Go for really big chunky stuff so cats won't dig. We had large slate chips in one area of garden and that worked well.

Its supposed to be a parent haven NOT a play area!! dd1 only 3 months at mo so looking for the future - liking the slate chips idea tho

Thanks
