Hi there,

My baby is never satisfied after a feed. He's not been for 3 weeks (since he was born). Any help would be appreciated...

Are you bf or ff? Ff advice is to feed unti baby stops and there should be some milk left in the bottle but I did not start ff until 6 weeks.

Why do you think he is not full?

Have you spoken to your HV about this?

How is he fed?

If you're breastfeeding, it is normal for babies to feed often.

Are you getting plenty of wet and dirty nappies?

What signs is he showing? Might it be that he wants to just suck for soothing rather than feeding?

If you're bf then I'd just keep feeding. Ds2 hardly ever stopped feeding for the first 4 months.

If truly not satisfied, give more milk, whatever the feeding method. But if bottle-feeding, be careful of mistaking the desire to comfort suck for not being full. Babies self-regulate on milk intake very well given the chance.

Remember that sucking is everything to a baby - food, comfort, relaxation, relief of pain or discomfort. If baby is bottle-fed, see if a dummy helps.

Just keep feeding him until he is. If you’re bf, switch breasts or with formula make more. Mine pretty much always fell asleep at the end of a feed when she was done. If he seems fussy and distressed but won’t eat more, it may be because he’s uncomfortable rather than hungry either from trapped wind or reflux.
