6 month old fell from changing mat

My 6 month old baby fell from her changing table. I literally turned around to get a nappy bag. I think she rolled and fell onto her forearms. It was the most horrendous thing I’ve ever experienced. I rang 111 and they seem to have no concerns. My DD had a slight graze and her head but no other injuries thank the lord.
I am now suffering from the stress of what happened. I’m having flash backs and can’t deal with the fact I could of killed her because of my stupidity. Please tell me I will feel better in time and please tell me if you have gone through the same thing? I didn’t take her to A&E as I havnt been advised to and now I’m regretting not going 😔

Oh and another time, same poor child, I was cutting her little fingernails and managed to cut some of the skin off the top of her finger. And another time, same child got a hair tied around her little toe so much that it was nearly cutting off blood to rest of her toe. I'll never forget that one. Both times, my friend who is a nurse rescued me in case A&E reported me to social services!

Whoyagonna you’ve managed to make me feel more human again after my terrible mother panic attack! Her changing table will be set on fire and thrown to hell tomorrow.
Honestly thank you all for your comments x

Just watch your back though while you're changing her.

At 5 months old DS fell head first off the sofa when my back was turned for a moment. Until that moment he had remained stationary wherever I had put him!!

I phoned 111 who said all sounds fine but go to a&e just to be on the safe side. Cue a 2 hour wait (after nurse triage) to be absolutely grilled on what had happened and be given a lecture about watching your child at all times.

He's 16 months now and had a few other bumps and falls but I'm not rushing back to a&e quickly.

I know the guilt you are feeling but from what I hear/read it's just one of those things all new parents have to experience unfortunately 🙈

I know from being there myself exactly how bad you’re feeling right now but please please try not to beat yourself up about this. My daughter fell off the bed at 5 months old and I took her to A&E where she was looked over briefly but no x-ray or anything. I was told to just keep a watchful eye and look out for the usual signs of head injury, which you are clearly doing. She’s a healthy, active 10 year old now. The fact that you’re so concerned means that you’re a FAB mum and she’s a very lucky girl. Keep an eye on her but give yourself a break Flowers

Sorry for the late reply. No x ray loterally sat in a&e for 4.5 hours and saw dr for all of 2 noniutrs. He just reassured me that baby was behaving normally and no harm was done.

Hi all. DD didn’t have a good nights sleep due to me poking her every 2 minutes. She’s woken up fine and will be enjoying her breakfast very shortly. Thanks again for all your comments xxx

My dd fell off our bed while I was stood right next to it putting Washing away once. I felt awful but she was fine.

Ds1 fell out over side of got after over reaching for wardrobe door knob when only few months old. He cried and I cried. As he was crying and didn't appear to be dazed/sleepy I didn't take him to a@e but did take him to gp. She was lovely and told me it's very common and infact it had happened to her too. We lowered the mattress that day after it happened.
It's shit when it happens and looks scary.

At age 5 weeks, my son managed to roll over for the first time. Which would have been amazing! Unfortunately, it was while having his very first ever photo session, and he was on a relatively small prop elevated a couple of feet off the ground.

So he promptly fell right off as we all were turned around for a moment. He was only 5 weeks old, not supposed to be able to do anything like that! We were all horrified, the photographer insisted on writing up an incident report, and a few minutes later my son was just fine.

They're really made of rubber until their little head starts to close up. Remember the classic equation: F=ma. Force is mass multiplied by acceleration. A baby weighs so much less than an adult that they simply don't create much impact force.
