Hi hope ur all well in this horrible winter. My daughter will be 8 months when we go on holiday I'm just wondering if I will need a sling or baby carrier and I don't want to spend too much I've seen a baby sling thst is onside it's from mothercare it's a side carrier will that be safe? I'm travelling first time with baby

Google your local sling library - if you go along they will have lots of different carriers you can try and you will be able to hire one if you don't want to buy one.

I’d definitely recommend visiting a sling library as you can try different options to find what is best for you.

Personally, I used a Moby (stretchy) wrap when my baby was very tiny, then a Connecta sling as he got bigger as I felt it offered more stability. I loved both and will definitely use them both again when my second baby is born.

Carrying on one side a lot won't do you any good.

You want the weight to be evenly distributed with lumbar support. You could hurt yourself if you try to carry for a long time using an unsupportive carrier.

My DD is only six months and very light for her age and I've just upgraded my carrier to a more substantial one with lumbar support. I got an Ergobaby Adapt which was very pricey but worth every penny.

That’s a really good point, @INeedNewShoes . You’ll definitely need proper back support, especially as your baby gets bigger, even if you only plan on using a carrier for short periods of time.

Ergo360 - love it for the forward and inward facing. DD2 just falls asleep inward facing so being able to outface with the change of 4 buttons is brilliant. Got mine on eBay new for £77. There are plenty of second hand or with patience you can get a good deal on a new one. (BNIB, prob off the back of a lorry tho!)

Amawrap £39.99 is good
Ergo is currently £85 from Mothercare - will last a lot longer and will be more cost effective if you’re planning on using it for a holiday a year for the next couple of years

Second either borrow from the sling library (my local is something ridiculously cheap like £10 for a month’s hire), then return. Or if you have the money upfront, buy an ergobaby, then sell it on after - they go for near enough cost Price secondhand.

We have the Lille baby. It is similar to the Ergo. We use it a lot - keen on walking. Our girl is 18 months old and still happy in it. I have a bad back and this one has excellent support. I also say check out your local sling library.
