Jumperoo alternatives

Hi

I've been reading about how using jumperoos damages a babies developing legs/hips due to tip toe walking and sitting before ready etc.

My lo will be 4 months come Christmas, and whilst i know this is still to early for a jumperoo, i was looking to buy something for when she is ready.

So does anyone know of alternatives to the jumperoo?

I don't unique you mean a different brand or different device. Both dds have enjoyed their door bouncer though I've not researched hips etc

BellyBean · 19/11/2017 14:06

*know not unique

We had the Fisher Price Roaring Rainforest Jumperoo and my little one loved it - he used from just over 4 months old, usually no more than 10-15 minutes at a time before he lost interest (so while I make breakfast for example). It was great to have somewhere to put him when he didn’t want to lie down all the time any more and he loved the bouncing.
He was sitting unaided from around 6 months and crawling at 8 months, at which point he no longer wanted to sit in the Jumperoo!

Thinking more a different device ? Not sure if maybe something lo can sit in and put feet flat ? Not sure really. Tempted to abandon the idea altogether Hmm

As long as you don't ababdon them in one for hours there shouldn't really be an issue. I have one that I used for my son and my daughter is just starting to use it. No hip problems, but it's only for about 15 minutes once or twice a day.

My health visitor commented on the jumperoo in the corner and said she loved them as long as babies weren't left in them for ages. She also rightly predicted that as soon as he was crawling he's never want to go in it again.

Don't leave them in it all day and I'm sure it'll be fine. No idea what an alternative would be

eurochick · 19/11/2017 18:29

We didn’t get one because of the concerns you mention. We didn’t have a bouncer of any kind. Didn’t miss it!

snackarella · 19/11/2017 19:20

Ah the circle of neglect 😂😂
I didn’t get one because the research concerned me too but the previous posters are right, as long as it’s for 15 mins at a time a couple of times a day it isn’t likely to do any damage. Some people use bumbo seats, or activity gyms where they can lean up

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 19:29

How are they tiptoe walking in a jumperoo?

We had one for ds who loved a good jump but as said, not for long periods. Otherwise he was on the playmat.

Also had a bumbo which he managed to face plant out of the first time we used it.

Once he was sitting up he was happiest in the high chair

ElfEars · 19/11/2017 19:45

My DS isn't allowed to use jumperoos due to problems with his foot and leg so we have one of these instead.

From around 5 months he would happily sit in it for short while and I could move it to any room I'm in. He has only just lost interest at 10mo.

Seated baby donuts? Mine had both and is fine. Was an absolute life saver at times as well

Ceesadoo · 20/11/2017 02:59

We had the same reservations about the jumperoo so my 4 month old is getting the Skip Jump Explore activity centre for Christmas, a ‘whole body approach’ to play and learning. Looks pretty amazing. I want my son to have it now haha.

Mrsfucktrumpet · 20/11/2017 10:29

Hi elfears we have one of those as well but again will ise it when shes ready to sit herself :)

That’s interesting, I’d not heard that research. DS loved his jumperoo, he was in it loads! But then he was walking well before year, so got less use out of it. It thankfully doesn’t seem to have impacted him!

Marmite27 · 20/11/2017 13:43

I thought it was baby walkers that were the issue, not the jumperoos as they do have their feet flat on the floor if they’re at the correct setting

KTCluck · 20/11/2017 20:48

We have the Skip Hop Explore and More activity centre and it's brilliant. DD loves it and it turns into a table when they are too big for the seat part. It's the best thing we've bought!
