real nappies and a wriggly baby

My lo is 9 months old and is a nightmare to change. I can just about manage to get him clean and a disposable on to him as I often end up changing him when he is on his tummy. On his back he screams, arches his back and throws himself over. On his tummy he tries to turn round and round. I sometimes change him standing up as well but not so easy to clean him like this. I have one 'little lamb' which is OK to put on as it has velcro but can't afford more at the moment. I have one tots bots with nappy nippas but these are impossible to do up. I have mainly terry nappies but again am finding them imposssible as they just 'collapse'. Any ideas please.......

My one yr old is exactly the same. I have the little ewes terrys nappies and he squirma and squirms making the nappy nippa really hard to do up. I just give him something to hold like the remote control and then i sing at him so he is distracted. It gives me a few more seconds but it's still exhausting. How are you folding them?

Dh puts boy's trousers on his head, that seems to keep him busy on his back! I have been known to put a nappy on boy crawling away. lay it on his backside and bum, scoop it through his legs picking him up in process and lie him back agaist my leg to do nippa up with him reclined. This obviously is when I'm changeing him on the floor. Good luck.

Yea we have a "nappy toy" aswell, a toy that is kept soley for nappy changing time, small enough so she can look at it/hold it whilst lying on her back and it goes away after the nappy change so she never gets bored of it!

We're still only at 6 months stage so not really wriggly yet. But I have a friend who lies her baby at a right angle to her on the floor and then pins her down with friend's leg over baby's tummy which frees the bottom end for nappying. It works, but she does use disposables. I'm wondering how I can do that in my small bathroom with two small boys... but thought it might help someone else!

Thanks everyone - I will try some of the suggestions. We are using a 'poo catcher' fold for little boys but I may have a look for some different ideas of folds that might be a bit less liable to collapse.
