Calling all Micralite Fastfold owners

I love my Fastfold but has anyone else had problems with thiers?? I've had mine for 5 months and so far both front wheels have snapped off and needed to be replaced. Today when adjusting ds in the seat something went pop and it's even more sling like than before. It would seem some stitching has come undone at the handle end but I can't for the life of me see how. I've tried contacting Micralite but without success - have I got a lemon or is this typical?

Mine's been fine but I hardly use it at all because I only mind my niece 2 afternoons a week. I have heard of one other person who's had the front wheel snap off though. Did you buy it online? If not I'd take it back to the shop you bought it from and they should replace it for you. It sounds like you got an awful one.

darwin · 17/04/2007 10:52

yes we have had big problems with ours . first one the front bar thing keep popping, returned and replaced with mothercare, second one something else big went wrong but cant remember what, again replaced with new one at m'care, then after about a year a handle snapped off, this time mothercare questioned if i had used it inappropriately and said would have to pay for it to be mended.(said i would not as obviously handles should not be snapped off etc etc) anyway micralite mended it. i really love the buggy so have kept it rather that exchanged it for a different type. does anyone know a buggy board that fits on the back of micralites?

NatalieJane · 17/04/2007 11:02

I have had mine since DS2 was born in December, it is used everyday, on and off the bus once or twice a week, and in and out of the car boot all weekend, and it has been fine, no problems at all.

Keep persisting with Micralite, my sister who is, let's say 'in the business' has to deal with them and she says they are normally very good at sorting things out. Good luck.

We had the very first model - and had a couple of problems - the handlebar "plugs" kept popping out and the front wheel snapped after a couple of years (and a rather aggresive kerb bash). I always found the Micralite head office very helpful - they sent us spare parts no questions asked. I think the guy I dealt with was called Clive. I still rate Micralites very highly.

dazedandconfunded · 01/08/2007 18:10

My front wheel sheared off today, and so far I have been unimpressed with the Kiddicare Customer 'Service' response. Maybe I should have dealt directly with Micralite but they weren't answering phones.

Has anyone tried fitting a new wheel themselves, rather than sending the whole frame in for them to do it????

boo64 · 01/08/2007 22:51

Yes I've had problems with wheels too.
Zip bugg***ed on the footmuff thingy as well.
But generally it's good and I still like it

dazedandconfunded · 03/08/2007 20:12

Update - Kiddicare and Micralite have been falling over themselves to get a set of new wheels to me. V good service after an unpromising beginning (fear of Mumsnet, perchance??)

Anyway, I love my Micralite again.

caughtintheact · 04/08/2007 11:18

I have had to get in touch with micralite twice, once to get a replacement inner tube for the rear wheel and the other time to get new front wheel assembly- it snapped off when i took a kerb at a funny angle.

i did buy it through kiddicare but both times have gone to micralite directly just because i wanted it sorted as quickly as possible as i use it every day. I just got the number from their website. Both times they were a bit slow at sending out the parts but they did come and they were ok on the phone.

dazedandconfounded - yes we fitted the wheel ourselves (well i admit dh did it!) they sent instructions that were quite clear.

Can I please ask if it is costly to have a front wheel repaired as if it is i might be better off buying another pushchair, which I truly don't want to but my warranty has expired. The wheel snapped off and came rolling from under the frame as i was strolling leisurely having encountered no obstacles. My son has not used the main puschair as yet as he is still using the car seat, which i attached.. I take it this is a common fault with front wheels snapping off then from the messages posted. This has made me so distressed especially since he has yet to use it properly. Please can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of repair as i have tried contacting micralite but have had no success!

Thank you from a very distressed mother.

Had mine for just over a year and used it constantly. A front wheel has just snapped off, but Micralite provide replacements without any problems. You do have to call a few times to get through but once you do they are incredibly helpful.

dazedandconfunded · 06/09/2007 19:23

I really think that they will give our new wheels for free, since they are tacitly acknowledging a problem with the old ones. Certainly you should try them.

Flumpity · 31/10/2007 21:50

OMG. I'm so glad I found this thread even though its quite old and probably no one will read this so i'm posting to myself. I just had exactly that fault today - the bl**dy front wheel snapped off while i was just strolling along through a flat carpark! total pain in the ass. I phoned micralite as kiddicare were spectacularly unhelpful and someone from micralite is phoning me back tomorrow... i will mention mumsnet to them!!!! sounds like they sort it out easily enough though thank goodness.

venny · 10/12/2007 17:50

we have had our micralite just over 6 months - so just passed guarantee period! today the front wheel snapped off. having read the threads i think it may be best to go directly to micralite rather than kiddicare. any idea how much it costs? is it easy to replace or should i send it back for repair?...up until now i thought the pushchair was great now i have my doubts.......

SarDalby · 27/01/2011 11:14

I'm so glad I found this thread, I'm having a nightmare with my Micralite Toro - the zip has started to disintergrate (where it attaches to the raincover) and I bought it from a private seller on ebay (brand new in box etc). Because its almost a year ago and I don't have proof of purchase (apart from positive feedback from the seller) I'm stuck waiting on another response from Micralite.

I have previously been happy with the customer service from Micralite and now I'm hoping that they will still help despite lack of proof of purchase.

Never again will I buy a product (that ought to have warranty protection)from a private seller on ebay.

Gutted. I love my pushchair.

lifetisaball · 16/06/2011 09:54

Hi
I also have the Torro and I have had the same problems with the front wheels, however I have to say that the Micralite head office were beyond useless!!!!!! I read these threads and I contacted them feeling confident that the customer service at micralite would be great, alas no, it seems that having proof of purchase is far more important than my 8 week old son nearly falling out of the carrycot when the wheel snapped off on a busy road, he is now without a pram till the new wheels come at a cost of £35.00! when the pram is less than 5 months old, again we bought off a supplier on ebay and no longer have proof of purchase. I would definately have said buy one of these prams now I would say put the safety of your baby first and stay away from these pushchairs that are a liability!!!!

mnistooaddictive · 16/06/2011 10:03

I used mine for 2 children, one with a buggy board

mnistooaddictive · 16/06/2011 10:05

To continue ........

The front wheel snapped off when dd2 was 18 months. I have had no other trouble but guess it depends how rough you are with it. I do find they are useless at sending out fisted and have to be chased up .

Childpatch · 24/03/2012 20:23

I have a Toro, again from eBay. Again no proof of purchase and been used daily for the last few months.

It has not been good for wear and tear. We have had several punctures and the hood has ripped a little from the carry cot. I had high expectations, our last travel system serviced two children for years, this one is not able to cope with one for a few months. I do though like the colour, it makes a change from black.
