Is it appropriate to take an 8 month old to a firework display?

Just wants to get some thoughts on this matter. We would stand in a place where we'd see the display but not be too close too it. I'm just worried DS may be frightened. Is anybody taking babies or have you in the past? Thanks.

I’ve taken babies out of necessity along with older DC. They screamed. Avoid if possible.

Mine went last year at 10 months and was transfixed! She also came at 6 months to an outdoor concert with fireworks and slept through them.

I'm taking my 4 month old tonight. He'll be in the sling and wrapped up, we also have ear defenders. We plan to stand away from the hubub and just leave if he gets upset. Friends took their similar aged twins yesterday and they slept through it all.

Mine have always gone. They are August birthdays so would have been less than 3 months when they first went.

I took my 6 month old last night to a fire work display, she watched them for about 5 minutes then went to sleep! I think it’s fine to take babies!

No, I wouldn't. It is really loud and babies get scared by sudden loud noises

Thanks everyone, I think the consensus seems to be you never know how your baby will be; some will be fine and other may not. We're going to go but will be standing away from the main part and will leave straight away if DS gets scared.

Its the noise level you have to worry about.
Loud noises can permently damage a babies hearing!

Thanks LondonLassInTheCountry but we where we will be the noise won't be so bad as we'll be abit away from it and have ear defenders but DS hears worse from the neighbours!!

We have just got home from our display. Ds loved it! He actually went to sleep by the end. Hope your night was a success too Bella

I have just gotten home from taking my 6 month old! He loved it. We stood out on the street instead of in the venue just in case he didn't like it (cause I'm a tight ass and didn't want to pay!) He really was fascinated for about 15 mins then just started playing with his pram toys and took no notice.

I wouldn't. You can watch out the window if you want to see them, without the noise and sudden bangs being quite so loud.

PFB’s first fireworks were at nine days. Then six weeks, then eleven months, then at least three times a year since.

Born before ear defenders were a thing, too, at very least I’d never heard of them nor seen anyone wear them, and I didn’t have the internet then.

I always considered it a positive to take children to community events.

We took our 7 month old yesterday and used ear defenders. I don’t think he noticed they were even happening.

Thank you everyone, DS loved it and he was absolutely fascinated by all the sparkly colours; i'm so pleased we went. We made it home in time for his warm bottle of milk and pjs and he's now soundly asleep! Thanks again x

We really wanted to go but our LO is only 7 weeks old so decided against it.

From your responses it sounds as if you'd already made your mind up to go anyway?!! Great that he enjoyed it!
