Just a phase? Or naughty?

My son is 20 months and he seems to be really grumpy for the past few days and he has broken his brothers' phone and refusing to eat any advice?

Confused

He’s 20mo baby. He can’t be ‘naughty’. He’s probably got molars coming through or something.

OuchBollocks · 03/11/2017 20:45

He's 1. Don't let him have breakable things.

I wouldn’t allow a 20 month old near a phone TBH. They have no idea that it’s valuable.

He got his brothers phone from out of his room and threw it

Pretty normal behaviour for a 20 month old. How would he know that it was something valuable? Toddlers throw things.

ElphabaTheGreen · 03/11/2017 20:51

Yes. Living with an older baby/toddler is like living with Keith Moon. You baby-proof the house. You appear to have had a child of this age before if you have an older one. Why is this a surprise?

Willsmomma · 03/11/2017 20:53

Because my 15yrold is my stepson

Fair enough. You have a normal toddler. Keep him away from breakable things until he’s about 2.5yo/3yo as all he’ll want to do is throw them. After that, he’ll have enough language to be able to reason with him and you can start removing the baby gates from off-limits areas.

PinkHeart5914 · 03/11/2017 21:02

I don’t think a 20 month old can really be called naughty tbh. At that age they don’t really even understand what naughty is.

Most toddlers have a phase of not eating things
Most toddlers can be a bit cheeky

Catalufa · 03/11/2017 21:03

Normal to go through a throwing phase at this age. Say No firmly and remove the item. He’s a bit young to understand time out / reward charts etc, but you could try those kind of things in about 6 months.

My 2 1/2 ur old has just about come out of this type of behaviour. It is linked to communication and language and frustration. It is hard for them as it is for you, lots of attention and firm boundaries, routine and take them out for fresh air every day if you can.

Mumof3boysxxx · 03/11/2017 22:27

Grumpy and not eating...I'd guess he's coming down with something

Willsmomma · 03/11/2017 22:29

He will eat snacks but not his dinner or his tea

Would he eat his dinner and tea if he wasn’t given snacks?

Willsmomma · 04/11/2017 09:18

No, he doesn't eat his dinner and then he screams for snacks

Teething?

Catalufa · 04/11/2017 10:57

Personally I’d say no snacks if he won’t eat his dinner. Try putting several different bits on his plate at mealtime and not insisting he eats everything.
