Does anyone use Kushies nappies?

I've just bought some kushies nappies, not used them yet, popped into my local sainsburys and they have started selling them so I couldnt resist. I usually buy the eco-friendly bio-degradable nappies but have wanted to use reusables for a long time and there they were befoe my eyes.

Anyway just wanted to see if you guys though they were any good? Do you put anything inside them? I've bought some Flushable one way liners, do I need these? I'm a bit cluesless really so any advice is greatley appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hills. x

hmmm

Kushies are probably the closest nappy to a disp in that you simply pop the paper liner in and velcro baby in - but am not a huge fan I'm afraid ...

  1. waterproof cover is a bit scratchy round the legs
  2. not much elastic in the back so if still at explosive poo stage it shoots straight up the back
  3. being an all in one takes yonks to dry
  4. only guaranteed for 120 washes which isn't great

BUT they are easy peasy to use and worth giving them a go to see how you get on - would recommend just washing a couple to start with - they will need atleast two washes through (no need to dry inbetween) to get them absorbent enough.

Last BUT - do not judge all cloth nappies by Kushies - there are loads of different styles, makes and combinations to choose from if you are interested.

I just bought one from Sainsburys too. I put DD in it this morning and she had an absolutely massive blowout. The kushies did not contain it AT ALL. It doesn't fit tightly enough around the legs. It was probably the worst I've ever seen, plus she's on solids so extra gross. Also, even though I rinsed it thoroughly and washed it right away, there is still a sort of poo residue on the outside of the diaper. Nice.

Um.. not good results here I'm afraid

WE used the Ultra all-in-one ones for ds for the first 5 months and they leaked and leaked and leaked - both wee and poo.

There was just no containment whatsoever because the fit was dreadful IMO.

The legs were alway gaping and there was no elastication at the back so b/f poo always came shooting out -yuk.

Switched to Totsbots and a Motherease wrap and never looked back - no leaks ever again with b/f poo or night times.

But I can see that with a non heavy wetting toddler, then Kushies might be an option, but I wouldn't recommend them for a baby.

If enough people say the same I would advise you get your money back tbh

Having said that - I sold ds' ones on Ebay and via the Nappy Lady site - some people seem to get on ok with them, but they tend to be folks who haven't realised that there are much much much better nappies out there.

If you do want to give them a try, then a paper liner will be fine, but I recommend a good booster too because they don't hold much wee.

Have a look at TheNappy Lady or Kittykins or Bumfluff for a much better selection of decent nappies.

kushies re a good first nappy to try as there is no folding invovled, nd are as esy to use as disposable.
however they are probly the worst in most other wys.
get soem advice from here twinkle i found them to be very helful.
lots of people on mn use real nappies, so just ask really. good luck with your decision.

bobsmum · 12/04/2007 12:19

Ooh the Twinkle lady is lovely - she was the one that told me about totsbots a long long time ago

PizPizPiz · 12/04/2007 14:41

Sorry but I found them useless. Looked very uncomfy, took forever to dry, didn't hold much wee, where do I stop? I sold mine on ebay.

PizPizPiz · 12/04/2007 14:41

oh yes, they leaked as well...

zubb · 12/04/2007 14:49

I used them for all 3 of mine when they were babies and didn't have any problems with them - they fitted fine. Only had the small ones and went to two part ones as they got bigger - using Bambino Mio - again ones that everyone usually says they hate! I tried a couple of the more popular types but they didn't seem any better to me. Try a couple and see how you get on.

NannyL · 12/04/2007 21:49

have used LOADS (almost all) types of reusable over the years and my joint worst (along with cotton bottoms pre folds) were kusihies im afraid

i hate them

them leak
take ages to dry
and my aunt even managed to 'wash' holes in the waterproof cover

Washersaurus · 12/04/2007 21:57

I too have tried MANY many types of nappy - the worst for us were also Kushies and Cotton Bottoms - they leaked terribly. We love our tots bots with motherease wraps - we also use motherease onesize nappies when a slimmer fit is required.

WriggleJiggle · 12/04/2007 22:02

I hate them because they just never seemed to fit properly.

dh thinks they're great, and in the beginning (before he became educated in more complicated nappy systems) meant that he was happy to change nappies without any fear of 'getting it wrong'. Bless him. His willingness to use them was enough of a reason to keep them.

Hilllary · 12/04/2007 22:06

Thanks for all your advice, As you have all said they are not very good I acted upon your advice and took them back to sainsburys today.

Thank you
