Bumbles and Motherease wraps - if you use these, how do you find them?

I'm 26 wks pregnant with first baby and have been advised by The Nappy Lady to use bumbles nappies and motherease wraps. Have read up on them and feel happy about the recommendations, but more feedback/advice is always welcome. So if you use these products how have you found them in terms of comfort and reliability. BTW I'm expecting a girl and husband is very tall part of the reason she recommended the bumble. Thanks for any input - gratefully received by a bewildered first timer!!

Hi I had a few bumbles which were fine. But I found them very bulky at first with a new born. Its praps not so bad with a girl but with boys their trousers are too small around the waist and bum to accomodate the nappy. I used Bimbles for the first few months and then MEOS. The MEOS wraps were good.

We use that combo on our 13m/o boy. was bulky at first - you don't use the boosters till you need them (12m for us except at night) and can use slimmer cloths as boosters if you prefer.
ME airflow wraps work fine over bumbles. I now use flushable liners, but while he was fully breast fed didn't bother.
trousers are often not big enough round the bum for terry nappies, common to use next size up and turn up the legs. I used some long shorts as trousers last year. some brands are better fitting than others. personally I find baby gap and next and tescos are good, boots mini mode and john lewis are BAD. sainsburys it depends. 2nd hand is best.

I second all unisarah has said. I use bumbles, bambeasy (their bamboo ones) and ME air-flows only now. I have tried so many different nappies and I find these are the best. I use paper liners and trouser turn-ups too!

Having said that, perhaps you could get a few size one nappies for the daytime in the first 6 months and use bumbles at night. Have you looked at nappy lady classified for eg bimbles? They tend to be in good condition as grown out of quickly. But i think bumbles should be fine, unless you have tiny baby and want to use cloth from day 1.

I LURVE my bumbles, just can't rate them highly enough. I also have Tots Bots and Motherease One-Size (MEOS) in the collection (uh-hum.... and quite a few others...) but the Bumbles for me are the best. The more recent models popper down to be a newborn size, although I agree there are slimmer fitting newborn nappies on the market. The nappy lady recommended bumbles on account of my partner being tall too... and my baby (to my great suprise) was born weighing over 9lb so fitted into them fine! Already (6 months) the Tots are getting a bit short on him but loads left in Bumbles. DS is still big for his age and wets quite heavily but the Bumbles last all night. Rarely leak on BF poo, dry quicker than Tots Bots but not as fast as MEOS.

I use mainly ME Rikki wraps, great prints, great containment for BF poo. Less scratching from velcro than with some others.

As to your post - comfort 5/5, reliability 5/5. I got a whole load of my bumbles from ebay but I hear there are a whole load of probs with second hand nappies ATM. I got some of my ME wraps from an Ebay shop seller and they were ridiculously cheap (about £6.50 a wrap). I also bought stuff from the Nappy Lady and found all really good except from their nappy bag.

good luck

I like bumbles, but i LOVE bambeasy (the bamboo version)-they are slimmer fitting, have more stretch to them and stay softer after washing. The only downside is that the fleece tends to start to grey after being hit with lots of poos but i think that happens with all nappies really. This is the only nappy in my collection that i use for both night and day, for night i just stick an extra booster in and its still not huge. If i wasnt an addict who felt i had to try every nappy out there i'd probably have got more of these and stuck with them for nighttime rather than using some of the HUGE nappies i have for night! Motherease wraps are good, more reliable than most. I preferred rikki when dd was younger but now that i have to do most nappy changes standing up i'm coming round to the idea of airflow-the poppers mean i can use them like pull ups

I have motherease airflow wraps and I would definatly recomend them. I recently used some velcro bambino mio wraps I got with a nappy starter pack from my council for my DS1 on my DD1 (ds was too big for them when I started) and I realised just how good the motherease airflow were. Think the whole velcro/popper thing is a question of taste though. Might be worth trying both?

BTW, I am pretty tall and ds is a big boy. I use wambamboo/bambineos and they fit my 10lbs dd and my 35lbs ds. I love them and they are really good for larger children as they have longer tabs and removable boster rather than sewn in one. Just a thought.

thanks for the tips so far. A bewildering array of nappies aren't there!!

we used ME airflow and rikki wraps and found them by far the best.my ds has just outgrown large so we are after next size up.we used them with mix of terries and shaped nappies.it is bit confusing at first and once baby is here youll become a cloth addict no question about it!

HAven't tried bumbles, but very pleased with Motherease airflow wraps (and the motherease onesize nappies we use too, although there are people on this thread with experience of Bumbles who recommend those more, IYSWIM).
