I think my 9 month old prefers nursery to being with me

I've just started back at work 2 weeks ago and work 3 weekdays, have my DS for 2 weekdays plus the weekend.

At nursery when I pick him up, the staff say how happy and playful he has been. At home with me it's a complete different story.

I've had him today and despite me playing with him, singing to him and taking him out in the pram he has moaned and cried all day.

I just feel awful. He genuinely seems to prefer being at nursery than with his mum. I don't know what to do?

I was so looking forward to spending today with him but he just seems to be angry and whingy all the time. He even cries when I pick him up to cuddle him.

If anything I thought it would be the other way round and he would struggle to settle in to nursery.

I know that they interact and play all day and I do make sure I spend as much time playing with him as possible but I do have to leave him to play while I make food, nip to the loo.

I honestly don't know what to do. I hate hearing him so upset all day.

Do you think he might grow out of it?

My toddler is waaaayyy more whiny with me than he is at nursery.

I think they feel safer with their parents so they are not afraid to, ahem, show their true colours so to speak

My two year old is the same. She's an absolute angel at nursery and a TOTAL pita at home with me.

Wow it's nice to know it's not just me. I was starting to think he didn't like me very much.

Thanks for replying!

I know I should be pleased that he likes nursery so much. It would be horrible if he was upset and I had to leave him there and go to work.
