So what have you done with all the outgrown baby clothes?

Hi,

My 20 month old son will be an only child so I'm currently getting rid of lots of 'big bits' (jumparoo, Moses basket, perfect prep machine etc) on gumtree.

Not sure what to do with (the many, many, many) old clothes, shoes, coats, sleeping bags etc. Some special ones will be kept, some I'll give to charity, but the rest... I don't think it's worth my time putting everything on gumtree for a few quid each, and eBay takes a cut of what you make, so again doesn't seem worth it when I assume they will go for so little.

What have you done with yours?

Thanks

Dropped them off at a local women's refuge, you could also look for mother and baby units in your area or Nick/maternity/children's wards at local hospitals.

Good idea about the woman's refuge Katescurious. Thanks.

Apart from a few special items I've passed them onto friends with younger children. The only thing I've sold was a snow suit DS2 only wore once.

Flowersonthewall · 01/10/2017 21:20

If you have a local nct branch they may take them if they run a little bundles scheme

chloechloe · 01/10/2017 21:53

I haven't got rid of anything yet (have yet to resign myself to DD2 being the last!), but many people sell things on as bundles where you sell a load of items together.

I would just give them all to charity shop but don't forget to gift aid it.

Anatidae · 02/10/2017 15:36

Ours will be a mix.

Keep some special ones.
Make a quilt from others
Big items (snowsuits) will be given to friends who can use them.
Everything else will be donated

I give most the nice bits to my niece (10 months younger than my youngest ) , sell some and rest goes in charity bins . I've kept a couple of teeny babygrows , cardies .

Summerdays2014 · 02/10/2017 20:10

Thanks everyone. Love the idea of making a quilt!

Lots of people put clothes bundles by age for sale on my local Facebook selling pages. E.g 0-3months bundle for £20.

There are lots of "baby bank" charities growing up which are lovely to donate to. They provide direct redistribution of clothes, toys and other baby/children's equipment to families in need Smile

For items that are very special to you personally, agree with PP that quilts are awesome, I think there are people who can do teddies too.

Orangebird69 · 02/10/2017 20:31

I've kept a couple of items, some to charity but mostly give them to friends with babies that will fit them!

trilbydoll · 02/10/2017 20:31

Charity shop sells rags by the kilo so anything not usable is bagged up for that.

If it's decent condition but not worth paying money for it goes to the clothes bank (like a food bank)

If I think someone will pay something it goes to the charity shop.

If it's a rare quality item like scandi stuff or Boden I put it on Facebook selling groups.

AWaspOnAWindowInAHeatwave · 02/10/2017 21:33

Kept a few, special items (going home suits, wedding outfits, first birthday outfits).

Charity shopped quite a lot.

Passed on loads to other mums at toddler group with younger babies.

DH's work has a "rummage corner" in the staff room which seems to go down well.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/10/2017 21:35

I kept the outfit that I brought DD home in and passed the rest on to a friend with younger children.

Pixie2015 · 02/10/2017 21:37

Kept limited special bits - sold designer bits in bundles for next to nothing on eBay 😞- gave away the rest to baby bank and overseas charity x
