Am I asking too much of my kids?

Ok, guilty mum feelings here.
I separated from H 2 years ago after staying at home with my children for 6 years and not working. They are now 8,6 and 4 (well next month)
Anyway, I wanted to get back to work and I needed to when we separated and moved. They are all well settled in school and nursery. (youngest starts big school next September).

I drop the older two children at breakfast club at 7.30am and the youngest at nursery at 8.00am. Youngest is happy at his nursery.

After school, my childminder picks them up and they have to walk about 1/2 mile back to hers. (she has a van for the service but doesn't really use it). I pick them up about 5PM.
Middle one and oldest have been saying the walking back (especially in the rain or cold )is too much and they moan sometimes in the morning about going.
My CM's daughter is my eldest daughter's best friend and she has always been good and taken them at short notice ect. So we have quite a good relationship.
I know lots of mums out there probably feel guilty too and wondered really if I am making them do much after a school day . I know another nursery locally who have spaces who collect the mindees in a car/van and is also a bit cheaper.
I can't cut my hours as it's been really tricky finding a decent job after 6/7 years not working.

WWYD?

If it is only the walk that is bothering them then i wouldnt be moving them. 1/2 a mile is nothing to walk once a day. Its good for them. Make sure they take a raincoat to school every day regardless and hang a drawstring bag on their peg with wellies and hat and gloves in for hometimes when needed.

I sometimes walk the mile and a half to school with my 6 and 8 year old and then walk them home after school too. Half a mile is nothing. There's absolutely no reason why a healthy child shouldn't be able to walk half a mile with ease.

They're moaning to make you feel guilty. My children walk slightly more than that distance every day to and from school. It's fine

Half a mile IS nothing. Lots of parents don't have/use cars and have to walk alot further! No need to feel guilty, you're hardly sat on your arse in front of the telly while they walk in the rain

Thank you all. In fact my mum never drove and we had to walk 1.5 miles to school every day and uphill in the countryside.
I guess I'm just feeling guilty about the long day but they really are fine and all healthy enough. In fact when they get home, they still seem to have plenty of energy!!

Make sure they have comfy warm waterproof coats

If you cut out the backstory, it's kids moaning about a short walk. My DSis used to live next door to a school and the child she dropped off would moan how long the walk was Grin Don't worry about it. It's good exercise.

My 3 year old walk 1 1/2 miles to and from nursery with me. Your children are just whining.

MyMorningHasBroken · 30/09/2017 09:21

I'm glad they are just whinging then!
:) I'll relax a bit!

Half a mile is nothing!!

Ds has walked just over a mile to school since he was in year one. No choice as I didn't drive and no public transport. He didn't moan as there was no other option.
