Hi All

Just wondering what everyone does with there LO when its raining? I have a 10 month old, we don't have a car. We usually head out for walks, baby groups, swimming etc, today we were supposed to walk to our garden centre which is about 30 mins away but the rain is awful by us and looks like its down for the day.

Fridays we don't have a group or activity to go to so I can't dash somewhere.

On rainy days I usually end up staying in and then feeling guilty my DS isn't getting any fresh air or stimulation besides me and his toys. What does everyone else do when the weather is rubbish?!

if you've got a water-proof coat and hood on the pram, why not still go out? It's not yet cold (in the UK) so your toddler will be fine.

We tend to put waterproofs and wellies on and go puddle jumping. If they're a bit damp when you get home chick them in the bath.

For babies that small it was a case of put the water proofs on and go for a walk to the library.

Now they are older, we'll probably still do a walk to the library in waterproofs but also do things like making up dances to "weird" songs they've never heard. It wears them out.

Puddle splashing sounds amazing! My LO can't walk yet so he will just have to watch me splash about in the puddles!

I'll have to invest in a waterproof coat with a hood, don't have one so the thought of getting soaked isn't helping Sad

Painting or messy play if we have to stay in. The activity and then the bath after usually tires ds out for a nap.

Definitely waterproofs for you both.

Even if LO can't walk yet, you can take them out of the pram/stroller/buggy and hold them to let them splash their hands or feet in wellies in some puddles.

Talk about the sounds of the rain and how its so different walking in the rain, and looking at people and animals acting differently in the rain.

And yes, head onto the coffee shop, library, garden centre, swimming or wherever. Just be prepared to change LO and yourself if need be when you get home if you get a bit damp.

No such thing as bad weather only bad clothing!!

Go outside - benefits are enormous!

Have fun Smile

I'd stay in and have a nice chilled out day. Your baby doesn't need fresh air every day and they don't need more stimulation than you and their toys. Don't feel guilty you sound like you're doing a fab job.

Please don't feel guilty for not filling every moment of every day with fun. Down time and time spent relaxing indoors is as important as the active stuff. When my dc were little, on the rainy days we used to watch the rain drops moving down the window. We used to watch TV and read stories. We used to bake. We used to draw rainy day pictures. I often left them to play with their toys whilst I sat nearby with a brew and watched.
