can anyone recommend a cure-all cream for nappy rash? my ds has it really bad (not yet to the bleeding stage, but starting to weep). Have had nappy off to let the air get to his bum, and have been putting sudocream on it, but not really improving. He's teething and seems to have an upset tummy, meaning he has a poo at every feed and sometimes more often...

advice greatly appreciated

If you can't find any metanium soak a bit of fleece or other material in some chamomile tea (assuming you can find that) and then put that in his nappy.

I scoffed (as you would) but this cleared DD's up in record time. (started one morning, was gone the next)
I also only wiped her with cut up cloths soaked in chamomile as the alcohol in the wipes made her scream.

agree about the camomile wipes.i also add olive oil for softness and if no sore bits drop of tea tree and lavender-but not with nappy rash!i cut up £ shop fleece blanket.

I think it has something to do with enzymes in saliva that are released to help soften the mucous membranes of the mouth (gums!) when teeth come through -obv it will be in poo too so will break down the mucous membrane that is you little baby's botty

the very best is all day nappy off sessions if poss and a very clean and dry bum plastered in metanium or similar at night.

it will clear up quickly, it's rotten for them isn't it?

I fourth or fifth the metanium. Use it quite sparingly though, I noticed on my Ds that it actually made the unaffected skin around the rash a bit red. I ended up mixing it with a bit of bepanthan and that seemed to sort out the redness.
I don't know if this works, but I have read that cutting down on irritating/acidic foods like tomato might help a bit and lots of liquids. I did notice that when I gave my ds a lot more liquid the pee was diluted and he was less red?
I hope his bum is better soon, it sounds as if he isn't too bothered, which is great news.

I agree with Indith, the Kamillosan ointment and nappy cream are both good and clear up my ds's nappy rash quickly. Must be the chamomile in it that helps, if everyone else is using it on their wipes - never heard of it before!

my son gets really bad nappy rash - bleeding broken skin etc. metanium is brill BUT the BEST thing for very bad rash is egg white.
I couldn't believe how well it worked.
Whip up an egg white into a froth then rub it onto your babies bum - here comes the tricky part! you need to let it dry before you put the nappy on so I usually whizz baby around (bum in the air style!) for a few mins and then you're done! Put on the nappy.
Make sure you change VERY frequently (keep egg white in fridge and use each time) and always immediately afer a poo (its the acid in the poo thats giving them sore bum)

Just read some of thread in more detail! so thought Id add this. (I have become expert since son has it so bad!!!)
Frequent poos. Runny poos. Dribble - definately all teething. Calpol (or madised) and ibuprophen will help loads.
