Night weaning 9mo old

My baby is nearly 10mo, formula fed. He is still really reliant on milk. I've been doing a night feed at 11pm for a while which typically means he doesn't need any more throughout the night. Recently I tried to reduce the amount gradually to increase hunger in the day because I know most babies this age should be able to last overnight without milk! He used to sleep through but since reducing he's started to wake once at night and demand more milk. I've ended up giving in as it's got him back to sleep quicker.

He's still not really taking to solids...refuses any breakfast, few spoonfuls at lunch and generally refuses any dinner! He still has about 750-800ml milk every day!

At that age, I think that still sounds fine. I'd keep up the bottle just before you go to bed and get some sleep. It will happen when he's ready. I would think it's really unlikely that the bottle he has at 11pm is making him not each much during the day. At 9 months, mine still wasn't eating loads, but by 10 months she was (like an entire portion of porridge, like the quick oats sachets with milk, an adult sized portion and a whole banana for breakfast). If you are still spoon feeding him, it's likely he's ready to eat more exciting and tasty thing on his own and that could explain the lack of interest in food. I'd switch fully to finger foods and eat your meals with him and eat the same things. He'll get it.

But they really should still have plenty of milk at this age including night feeds when they want them. Mine dropped her night feeds on her own around 9 months (we didn't have to do anything, it's just because she started to feed herself well during the day, which he will do as well if given the chance). But she still was having 5 bottles a day during the day plus 3 meals. What about switching to offering food first before milk during the day if you haven't done that before?

He is doing baby led weaning because he really refuses spoon feeding, he just turns his head away and clamps his mouth shut so we do finger foods instead. Hopefully he will get to be as good as your little one, I consider it a success if he has a teaspoon of porridge let alone a whole portion...haha! I think we are a little way off.

I offer meals 1st. He has 4 bottles a day, one after each meal and one at 11pm.

My DD was 13th months before she dropped her nighttime bottle. It was the last to go.

Just go with it what your baby wants with blw
