Audio books to sleep?

I recently bought some audio books that I've been putting on for my son as he drifts off to sleep. Today a friend told me this is bad because it stimulates their brain. Is that right? I don't think so as I did the same as a child. I always thought it helped with sleep?

I think it sounds like a lovely idea and if it sends him to sleep and he's not waking up tired or grumpy because of it then it works so i would carry on! I've heard of screens making sleep disrupted but not audio. (I myself listen to audio/music or meditation and wake up feeling great).

Do what works x

Dd6 loves audiobooks and they definitely help her to sleep.
I can see the logic that they would be stimulating but not my experience.

Btw - we've just discovered that the library has a decent selection to borrow and they are treated as books not dvds so free

Oh good. I have no idea if it helps him actually sleep or not but he's seemed very settled with them. I didn't know the library did that. Unfortunately I don't have a local library at the moment though as it shut for repairs :/

I’ve always found that familiar stories are relaxing and help lull to sleep but new ones can make children want to stay awake to listen. If your son sleeps ok I wouldn’t worry.

My 2 DC have always listened to audio books to lull them to sleep. No problems at all. In fact my DS is 17 now and is listening to the whole Harry Potter series.
