Anyone used Nappy Ever After or other nappy schemes?

Hi - just researching the nappy minefield. Want to use reusables and loads of good advice here. Anyone used any of the services that pick up dirties and drop of clean ones? Nappy Ever After is £10 a week and local council offers incentive to join. The nappies are cotton and from what I've read on Mumsnet bamboo might be better?

Thanks Nappy-watchers!

Not used them...

Most nappy services like that work with prefold nappies, which some people don't get on with (others fine).

£10 a week sounds a lot though - 5 months worth of that would get you a good full set of your own cloth nappies.

With enough nappies you can use them and only have to do an extra washload to normal every 3rd day.

bamboo takes longer to dry than cotton but is worth it as it is more absorbant and stays softer where as my cotton ones go like cardboard! I have bambineo that is lovely and If you buy sufficient like oxygen says your only talking one extra wash every 3 days. I prefer and mostly use pocket nappies (fuzzis, happy heiny) and they dry in no time as the insert and the nappy seperate and theres no wrap to puton either. I also like the wya with my pockets the fleecey lining draws the wetnes away whereas the cotton or bamboo shaped ones it feels damp around his botty. everyone prefers something different. good luck you will soon be addicted!

roffle - always good to get carried away

I never find pockets last for long enough

nappyzone · 08/04/2007 10:32

i think it just depends what you stuff them with - i change boyo every 3 - 4 hrs and we rub along just fine. stuff with microfibre inserts. i cant resist a new pocket!

That's great advice - thank you - I think I will go for bamboo and will investigate what pockets are! One thing - roughly how many do you think is sufficient to last three days, and do you need to soak them while waiting for the wash?

Some do soak, some don't - I don't, all far too much hassle.

It also depends on the age of the baby - if you have a newborn then you will need 20 or so, but from 3-4 months 16 or so will do just fine. It also depends on what type you have and how you are drying (you might need more if you have all bamboo and don't tumble dry etc as you will need some for the cross over period.

nappyzone · 08/04/2007 17:43

yes i agree would need more if bamboo as take an age to dry mind you summers on its way hip hip hooray! i dry pail mine in a sealed storage box and run a few drops of tea tree oil around rim so never have a pong problem.

Make an appointment with a nappy advisor who will be able to show you loads of different types of nappies - different brands, different fabrics, different systems. She'll also be able to talk you through soaking versus dry pailing. And how many you need. I generally recommend 20 and wash every 3 days. I recommend dry pailing manly and using fleece liners.

Check out www.teamlollipop.co.uk to see if there is a Lollipop adviosr near you (they have nearly 200 so it's highly likely), although there are other companies that do have some advisors.

Also check out the nappy finder for other local agents!
