If Kelly is a mumsnetter I would just say really really well done..!!!!
I really felt for her + thought she did incredibly well...
Query ... why is it that on TV- the only ones with problems are single/ and or working class parents???
Answer... because they are the most HONEST.

Not going to let you kill a thread THAT easily!

lyndap · 15/07/2004 09:11

Wow,
You do find out a lot about other MNetters' private lives on here dontcha???
My DH also finds the Supernanny's red stilletoes and gloves a bit of a turn on but he went to all all boys' school and I reckon he has issues - he fancies trying colonic irrigation after seeing "You are what you eat"......
Back to the programme - in common with several of you, I found it quite heart warming. Amazing how things changed for Kelly from just existing to actually having her life back.
What did we do before we were shown how to cook, decorate and parent by the telly??

Twinkie · 15/07/2004 09:39

Thought it was lovely and had me blubbing at the end when Kelly had got her life together - DP did his mornal thing of thinking it was near us (I think it was Croyden way and not SE London) and so checking the road map for the riad she lived in (St Peters Conservation Area is nearby!!)

Why don't we Supernanny for each other - any problem kids out there and one of us could go round and pretend to be super nanny in a very fetching (if not completely gross!!) matron typey uniform!!

Well you lot could - I am far too fat to fit in one of those uniforms and would probably just want to slap the little blighters!! (Being UN PC me afterall!!)

mrsflowerpot · 15/07/2004 09:43

glad I'm not the only one who blubbed at the end. In fact I wept quietly through quite a bit of it - the change in the little boy and how happy he looked when they were all playing together. Must stop or I'll be off again...

webmum · 15/07/2004 09:59

I did cry a bit as well...but I always do when children are on tv....

Unicorn, don't want to start a debate about this, but while they're probably overrepresented on TV, I suppose it must be harder to look after children when you're on your own and on a low income.

My dh's salary allows me to paya clenear so I can spend 'quality' time with dd and the odd babysitter so we can go out soemtimes and be a couple again, also havong someone with whom to share all the worries does help a lot.

Even in my first few months as a new mum I often wondered how on earth do single mums cope? My dh was away most of the week, but at least I didn't have any money worries and he was only a phone call away, and was there at weekends...

Hats off to all the single mums out there!!!

MeanBean · 15/07/2004 10:08

I don't think it is because they have more problems parenting, I think it's a cultural thing - they're more willing to go on TV. I think posh people are more protective of their privacy, and also perhaps more aware that they may be judged negatively.

juniper68 · 15/07/2004 10:15

Oh nooooo i missed it that'll teach me to party on someone's v expensive wine

I wonder if it's repeated?

webmum · 15/07/2004 10:22

what about the 'posh' people who go on wife swap?

crunchie · 15/07/2004 10:24

I loved this last night. DH watched and I have to say since last week I have been trying certain things. We have always had a naughty step, so that helps, but I have tried the going down to their level and talking in a stern voice, rather than shouting from my lofty 5'3" It does seem to work, and has stopped me shouting so much, I am determnined to continue wiith this little trick.

I also watched Little angels a while back and they used the sleep fairy to encourage going to sleep more easily, I am also trying this one too.

If it isn't MN it's the TV that gives me ideas how to parent, any help is gratefully recieved

i've been trying the gettin down to his level trick for ds2 and it's helpin. I keep putting him in the bathroom and holding the door and that works a treat

Aha - just posted on the other Supernanny thread.
I too felt so pleased for Kelly - but thought that JoJo could have been a bit more stute with her in the first place, and it could have been achieved with less unpleasantness and pressure for her.
Doesn't Jo ever use rewards or star charts etc? I'm a bit perturbed that her first and only strategy is punitive. Although the emphasis on constructive, communicative play is good.
But all power to Kelly - brilliant that she is doing her degree.
