How do you get motivated to do essays?

I've got loads of work to get on with, and tonight would be a sensable night to do it as my dc are both in bed, and my dh is in work until 10pm.

But I just can't get motivated to do it. They are all long essays, and after being on here for an hour, theres not much point in even starting now

How do you get motivated to do work?

Even if you do 15 minutes that's a start.

Do you have any ideas what your essay is going to be like (the shape etc) can you write a basic essay plan in that time?

Can you work out what you need to read and get it set out ready and maybe write a bibliography?

CAn you do 15 minutes of notemaking as a start?

If I can't start these are the things I start doing. When you really are procastinating I find breaking it down into 15 minute slots of time help. Then you have got something done no matter how little.

Agree with Armadillo. Start with an essay plan. You'll then have a clear idea of what you want to include and it'll be broken down into sections. Then you only have to do one section at a time. Also helps with the introduction (Through this piece, I will demonstrate an understanding of blah, blah, essay plan, blah).

I must admit that I am a bad example as the only thing that motivates me is a looming deadline. Am dreadful for leaving it all til the last minute.

Good luck!

i always do a bit of research, just a side or so the night before I want to really start the essay. Then when I go to it the next day I feel like I've started already, even if it is only a few lines, and then I don't sit for hours with writers block

Thanks for that. I normally try to do about a hour a night, but the deadline normally comes (and often goes lol). May try the 15minutes

Going to start tomorrow now

I always tell myself I'll do 30mins of studying each day, even if it's just flicking through articles, I always jot down notes & references, page no's etc of things which may be of use. Certainly makes my life easier when I'm working on an essay. I find it helps me to get up early when I can have peace & quiet before the dc get up.
