I gave birth to twin boys six weeks ago, initially I breast fed for the first two weeks but I could not produce enough milk to satisfy both babies and struggled to keep up with their feeding demands due to becoming exhausted. My Partner and I were then topping up each twins feed with formula as instructed by health professionals. After 2/3 weeks I gave up on breast feeding and started to completely formula feed.
Since transferring to formula completely, it is apparent that my youngest twin (by one minute) has a cows milk allergy. His symptoms come include eczema, hives / rash, poorly tummy and reflux. The GP has prescribed a special formula which has made some improvement but my baby is still suffering and in so much pain. I can't even comfort him at all times as I have to split my attention between him and his twin brother.
I feel so guilty because this pain could have been avoided if I continued to breast feed.
I was wondering if I could restart breast feeding at six weeks post partum? Or would my milk have dried up? I would appreciate any advice or tips on this subject. Thank you
