Dummy at 6 weeks

oeufdepaques · 19/09/2017 09:10

Baby is 6 weeks old and I've just given him a dummy. Really wanted to hold off as dd had one from day 1 (the clinic where she was born gave it to her) and i feel it caused problems with feeding (slow weight gain as think she was taking the dummy instead of milk).

Ds is feeding well, quite fussy but good weight gain. But he is difficult to put down. If he's asleep he'@ll wake up and cry and if he's awake he will cry almost immediately. It's hard to do stuff with dd or have a shower without him crying. Dummy seems to calm him quickly. He's still so young though so maybe all his is totally normal and I should hold off with the dummy?

all my dc had dummies from about that age. All fed well and thrived, gave them up withoout too much fuss and can now talk, sing, speak, eat etc with no issues! 😊 if is works for you and your family and sanity, useone i say!

All the fussiness you describe does settle down. I have a 14 week old (no dummy) and he is a completely different baby to what he was at 6weeks. Can you persevere for another few weeks to see if they calm down? Ultimately you need to do what's right for both of you so don't beat yourself up over your choices.

Thanks for replies. Think I am just really worried that it'll affect his feeding. Will try using occasionally when in desperate need! He might not take it it anyway as has now spat it out and is looking at me grumpily!

Difficult to put down is totally normal, do you have a sling or carrier? Naps here are hours long in a carrier but minutes long if not!

Can't seem to get on with a sling but will persevere!
