Toddler with loose tooth - emotional and so upset

Hi

My 3 year old was fooling around and slipped, fell face first into the floor and one good immediate came out of place - didn't fall out, but you could see it sort of 'dislocated' - i panicked and snapped it back into its right place. Went to dentist, he said she has a hairline fracture on both front tooth. He didn't even say what that meant - and couldn't tell me it tooth/teeth would fall out - he said could be soon, could be in 7 years when she starts losing her baby teeth. I suppose because we were an emergency case he didn't have time as they were closing soon and he had patients still.

I am so sad and emotional and i don't know what to do - i realise this makes me look stupid as it just baby teeth, but the feeling that at 3 years old, she might lose both her teeth already makes me so sad. Ive not really stopped crying since it happened.

Can anyone who is a dentist/dental nurse/parent with same experience shed any light?

Sorry for the long post. thanks.

My DS did the same at 3 (face butted the stairs) and turned one of his front teeth black. He is now 5 and three quarters and now that tooth is starting to go wobbly (but not unusual at this age for children to be down a tooth). So he did manage to keep it for quite a while.

My DSis lost two front teeth at 2 after falling down stairs (my family should probably move into bungalows...) - she just had a gappy smile until her big teeth came in! Doesn't seem to have affected her too much...

Keeley - did that tooth ever turn white again? I know its silly of me to be so upset about it but i really am. Did the dentist say your son had a hairline fracture too? Did the wobbly tooth become hard again?

Sorry for all the questions, and thank you for sharing your experience with me.

My middle dd lost her tooth falling face 1st at 2. I remember feeling the same as you.
But she was fine & was so excited when her big teeth started to come in.
( she also made her older sister so jealous that she got a visit from the tooth fairy 1st)

My ds hit his mouth on a trike when he was at playgroup & he bruised his tooth. I was so afraid it would affect his adult teeth, but it hasn't at all.

My best friends too DC both had a black front tooth. It actually made the teeth stronger if anything and her DS now has new front teeth AND the flipping black tooth.

It doesn't look great but it's ok

No - it stayed black/grey in colour. Dentist said he had bruised it and there was a chance it would turn white, but that it could equally just stay the same colour which is what happened. It did firm up but as I said now has become wobbly.

It is a bit upsetting (I was convinced people would think he had rotting teeth) but I just told myself that at least it was a milk tooth and not his permanent teeth.

kids start loosing there front 4 teeth at 4/5/6 not 10.... so even if they come out early it's not so early.

My DS was relatively late loosing his teeth (6) and his new ones were through by age 7.
