Christmas (dare I say it) gifts for a 18mths old

Please give me some budget gift ideas for my DS who will be 18mths at Christmas. I have no idea what to look at getting. Hmm

DS doesn't seem to engage with his current toys much (apart from the cars and books.) We have loads of baby bits around still that he's outgrown. I want to get him some new bits that are right for his age.

What has been good for your DC?

My daughter was around 18m last Christmas and we got her some fisher price little people sets (a castle and some figures) and at Christmas she liked the figures and would look/play with them a lot, it's only recently she's started properly playing with the castle but she loves it, well worth the money! Mothercare do their own equivalent and I'm sure other shops do too! When her friends are round they are always drawn to it... Smile

Noisy, colourful and cheap would be my suggestions.
Don't buy too much because they can easily get overwhelmed and if you have lots of family giving gifts then space them out and open them over a few days.
My ds is now 3 but we got him a beat bo when he was younger and he loved it here

I've got something for you, bought it for my dds 3rd birthday but the 20mth old loves it. Just a moment...

I think that and a few little bits like bubbles, a jigsaw and a book would be plenty. They really really don't need buckets of crap at this age.

Wow great a few bits I've never even seen before ( starts Christmas shopping list ) Grin

Dd was 17 months last Christmas and we got her a Toot Toot train set as her main present. Then a few books, bath toys etc.

From others she got more Toot Toot stuff. Shape sorter. Jigsaw. Doll. Trike.

We spread out the presents over a few days but she was a bit overwhelmed and didn't really know what to make of all the new stuff.

Watching with interest. My DD will be 18 months at Christmas

Happy land! My daughter is 3 now and loves the pirate ship still.

Plus its half price at the moment Wink

Duplo?

HandbagFan · 13/09/2017 07:06

DS is 18m now and loves his cleaning set (vacuum, dustpan, brush, broom, mop). He also has a doll helikes to feed and put to bed. We've just given him duplo we stored away and he's really interested in that too.

mrsnec · 13/09/2017 07:06

Toot toot stuff here too. Also some Duplo but they're not really into that yet and books and clothes.

Talking Mr Tumble doll went down well with ds. And both mine have the very basic vtech telephone that just teaches shapes and colours.

Toy buggy is good for this age as they love racing around with something to push, especially carrying things about.

Ride on toys brilliant.

Brio (other compatible wooden trains are available) is just starting to be interesting and you can start very simple and move on to building up the collection later.

Tea set - for role playing and fantastic in the bath for pouring. Actually for pouring elc used to do a great set of stacking cups with holes in the base for use on dry land or in the bath.

Timefor2 · 13/09/2017 14:22

Hide n Squeak eggs - cheap enough and toddlers love them.

Wooden puzzles (the ones where each piece has a hole to go in, rather than a proper jigsaw) are great and you can never have too many books (particularly Julia Donaldson).

The Ikea toy kitchen is brilliant for a toy that they will use for years - from just opening and shutting the doors to start, to then hours of make believe play as they get older.

My DD will be 20 months at Christmas. We're planning on getting her some new books, and the Ikea play kitchen. She loves playing with pots and pans while I cook and copies me chopping and stirring (not with a knife obviously!) so I think she'll love her own. My DM is getting her a toy workbench (despite her saying 'does she really want a BOYS toy 🙄 - yes mother, she also loves a toy car, get out of the 1950s) because she also loves hammering and taking things apart/putting them back together.

KarateKitten · 13/09/2017 14:40

Oh I got my other 18mth old a scuttlebug. It's been well used by little and big kids alike.

Awittyandmostunusualusername · 13/09/2017 21:44

Ohhhh zap** the garage looks great. I can't spend a fortune, so need to think about one big present like this and a few little bits. Plus where do I find the storage space if I buy loads of elaborate gifts.

My DS has a duplo set already, it's vehicles starter one .Which he does like as it's basically cars.

And I totally recommend the hide & squeak eggs too.

Got some greats ideas from this thread. thanks
