At what age did you stop washing your children in baby bath (Johnson's or whatever) and start using soap/ body wash?

Ive always used Johnsons Baby Softwash, which is expensive but I stock up when its on special offer. it leaves their skin really silky.

Aveeno baby body wash is lovely - oatmeal and fragrance free! I'm scared to use Johnsons on DD as their products always bring me out in red welts.

I use mainly just water but have been adding Oilatum (which also cleans)to her bath water as DD's skin is going through a particularly dry phase. She's 14 weeks.

hairymclary · 03/04/2007 21:50

have never used baby bath, it's full of horrible chemicals, especially johnsons softwash which coats the skin with stuff that makes it feel smooth. yuck.

use a nice soap and water.

Alibobster · 03/04/2007 22:56

My ds (9 months) cannot use Johnson's products, as they bring him out in a rash. Doctor told me to use Dove or Simple soap, which I do, but I would love to give him some nice bubbles to play in (DS, not the doctor). Can anyone recommend good alternative products?

Runninglate · 03/04/2007 23:12

This Aveeno stuff bubbles.....
and my nurse offered it to me on prescription for DD's dry skin and it's also paed approved if that means anything.

aveeno is made by johnsons isnt it?

but it is wonderful stuff.

didnt really yuse baby products on dd3, occasionally have to use soap on her after she has been digging in the dirt.

Chandra · 03/04/2007 23:37

Do people is aware that Aveeno is manufactured and marketed by Johnson&Johnson?

(quite a diferent animal, although belonging to the same family...)

misdee · 03/04/2007 23:38

lol chandra!

Runninglate · 04/04/2007 10:36

Holy moly - you're right, dammit. J&J are taking over the world.

lizandlulu · 04/04/2007 15:16

you have got me scared now. i want to do the bast for my dd, abd her skin has the odd dry patches, but do i have to throw away the jhonsons stuff that i already have?? is it that bad? is avent ok? i have been using jhonsons since birth and im now worried that ive exposed her to all sorts of stuff.

lizandlulu · 04/04/2007 15:16

sorry, just realised im spelling johnsons wrong!!

Chandra · 04/04/2007 17:29

Liza, you don't have to throw them out. I used them to wash my dogs (until they also developed skin problems but... it is fair to say that baby products were not designed with dogs in mind, so my fault for using them...)

twocatsonthebed · 04/04/2007 17:36

Where can you get the Aveeno baby stuff? I can only find the adult creams, and would love to get the wash for dd.

Runninglate · 04/04/2007 21:39

The nurse who gave DD her jabs offered to prescribe me the Aveeno stuff...... I know you can buy it in the supermarket in the states (just got home from there) but not sure about in the UK....

ALERT - nurse also prescribed me Oilatum to put in her bath and she's gone incredibly dry with red blotches, so bath tonight in just plain water with olive oil put on afterwards....will report back!

Alibobster · 06/04/2007 12:38

Got some Baby organics NurseryJo - Lavender and olive oil - no adverse effects so far
