Choosing a name...anyone else changed their mind?

My daughter was born 9 weeks ago and I have changed my mind about her name. I was never sure but just could not decide and agree with DH. I finally registered her at 6 weeks and have regretted it and want to change it! Am I the only nutter like this, or are there any others???

what did you call her and what did you want to call her?

ELF1981 · 03/04/2007 20:46

what are the names?

annieapple7 · 03/04/2007 20:53

We called her Lauren Rose.

I have changed my mind about Lauren.

I want to call her Rose. I love Rose. So does DH. We should have called her Rose as a first name from the start, but I thought it sounded better as a middle name.

So we did plan on calling her Rose but I think that will get on my nerves because her full name with still be Lauren Rose and it will be, "Why do you use her middle name?" etc.

The other choice we had was Isabella. So I think I would like Rose Isabella.

But frankly my decision making sucks and who knows what I will be thinking next week?

What a muppet I am.

I think it's a lovely name.

ELF1981 · 03/04/2007 20:55

You're not a muppet. I worried about my DD's name for ages afterwards - DH gave me the honour of naming her, we called her Evelyn Boo, but for ages I wondered if it was right. but now I couldn't imagine her being anything other than that.

I know loads of people who use their middle names as first names

Eleanor Patricia = Pat
Josephine Lillian = Lillian
Rose Anne = Anne

ELF1981 · 03/04/2007 20:56

And IMO Lauren Rose is a lovely name

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/04/2007 20:57

You can change the name within one year.

I like Lauren Rose. My sister calls herself by her middle name (Luminitza) and only remembers her first name (Georgeta) around St George's day.

nogoes · 03/04/2007 21:00

Just call her Rose, my uncle was always known by his middle name.

rachfran · 03/04/2007 21:01

MY brother in law is known by his miiddle name

chocolateface · 03/04/2007 21:03

I'm only ever known by my middle name as my parents changed their minds. It only causes a problem when I'm waiting at the Dr.s and forgett my full name (this mostly happened just after i was married)

You need to save some nice names for your next DD.

annieapple7 · 03/04/2007 21:05

Aww, thanks.

Catherine Tate's "not bovvered" character's name is Lauren!

I will see how easy it is to change before making a decision. It is only on birth certificate so far, no bank account or anything yet.

I just can't believe I had 9 months to think about this and still couldn't decide!

nogoes · 03/04/2007 21:08

Don't worry about the Catherine Tate show. I think they deliberately picked a name that is not chavvy. Lauren is a lovely name but if you would prefer to call her Rose then do so. I wouldn't go to the hassle of changing it by deed poll or anything. At the end of the day you did choose Lauren so it will always be special even if you don't use it every day. I think you would regret it if you changed it.

ELF1981 · 03/04/2007 21:10

FWIW my name is Emma-Louise, I'm known at work just as Emma, all my banking docs etc are just Emma.

My mum wanted to change my name - my rat of a biological father named me behind her back, probably after some floozy he'd met in a bar, but I couldn't imagine myself with the name she wanted to call me!

beansprout · 03/04/2007 21:13

I really like your dd's name, but in answer to your post, I have friend who changed her mind. People commented at the time but it soon settled down. Don't live with something you might regret, if you want to change it, I would go ahead and do it!

snowleopard · 03/04/2007 21:15

As you say you never know if you'll change your mind again, I definitely wouldn't go through the hassle of changing it - just call her Rose. Lauren is also very nice and FWIW it doesn't make me think of Catherine Tate but just of a friend of mine.

bristols · 03/04/2007 21:18

I like the names you chose, but if you did want to change the birth certificate, you don't have to do it by deed poll. From what I remember, you can change it within 12 months of registration. It tells you how to on the back of the certificate.
My husband is known by his middle name and it does present problems. For example, his professional certificates are in the 'wrong' name as is his passport. When we married, I had to use a name which was different from the one I called him. Also, people make cheques out to the 'wrong' name which makes it difficult to pay them in. If its not too much hassle, I think it would save trouble in later life for your LO if you changed her name.

annieapple7 · 03/04/2007 21:25

Thanks everyone. I love MN. The problems you mention Bristols are the ones I am concerned about.

Most forms ask for FULL NAME and then you get called your first name and have to explain no, you go by your second name....it just seems unduly confusing!

Just looked at the back of the birth certificate...thank goodness it doesn't seems too difficult.

But you can only change the forename once! Better get it right this time!

Don't rush into anything!! You have a few months to be absolutely sure. FWIW, I really like Rose Isabella.

annieapple7 · 03/04/2007 21:30

It is weird because I was certain with the names of my two boys....

I have had varying reactions to DS2's name but I adore it and it never bothered me.

I think I have taken on board too many of my family's opinions this time.

I think I jsut got hung up on the the middle name thing, when really, no one announces their middle name do they?

I don't think I even know the middle names of many of my friends!

ELF1981 · 03/04/2007 21:33

I'm a sad muppet who loves middle names esp ones in friends where the first and middle name are sooo different in style

kathryn77 · 03/04/2007 21:34

i love both names.. my boss is known by his second name and so is my aunt - seems quite common

sunnysideup · 03/04/2007 22:07

I think Rose is lovely - go for it.

2cheekymonkeys · 03/04/2007 22:09

I chose a name for my ds2 (now nearly 3) and got so many negative reactions to it that we changed it. I now regret it but it's too late. it is his middle name but it should have been his first name. Every time I hear of another boy with this name it just annoys me that we let other people's opinions affect or choice. I'd say go with the name you like or it will always bug you.

Lizzylou · 03/04/2007 22:12

I went to Uni in Wales and nearly every man was called by their middle name.

Molesworth · 03/04/2007 22:14

I changed ds' name

He was Alfie for the first 4 weeks

Glad I changed his name now as Alfie has become so popular

(this was back in 1993 btw)
