Hi everyone
Im in the process of applying for part time jobs and have been given an interview for a teaching assistant 22 h a week at minimum wage .
I have a 1 year old and a 5 year old who starts school Monday .
My one year old will need childcare from 8 am -1.30pm mon-fri if I get the job .my family all work so I have no free childcare help there. I live in London so childcare is really high cheapest I can find is 744 for the month for those hours .
I currently am in a privately rented flat which is £1150p month ( London prices- this is cheapest around) housing benefit pay 1050
Currently as I'm unemployed and have no way of paying and didn't qualify for council house apparently . I've done the online calculators but have been told there rarely Correct
Anyway that's some background to understand my questions x I really wanna et this job but would

  1. my housing benefit go down a lot ? As I would only earn 780 a month doing the 22 hours so I wouldn't be able to afford it

  2. the childcare which is 700-800 a month - will I get a lot of help for this in tax credits ?

  3. would I be able to make t all work financially or would I end up a lot worse for working ?

I'm the only adult in th flat so I feel like I can't take a risk if it'll make us a lot worse off ?

Thanks guys any advice welcome .

They take into account childcare costs with housing benefit but I imagine the amount you get would go down . You will get help with childcare costs with tax credits . I would do the entitled to calculator with the new numbers and see what it says . Normally you should be better off working but not always by a lot .

You'll get extra tax credits towards childcare costs - up to 70% but the extra payment gets added to your income when they're working out HB/CTB entitlement- even though they know it's not extra money and you're using it for childcare!
